Este es el último post que escribo con respecto al Liverpool en la UEFA Champions League de este año, a pesar de la victoria en cancha del Debreceni nos quedamos con las ganas de llevarnos la 6ta Orejona a las vitrinas del club. Ha sido -según yo-  una temporada desastroza, en la liga realmente vamos del nabo y en la Champions… pues, eliminados, y ahora la vista de los Reds se enfoca hacia la Europa League (antes conocida como UEFA Cup).

La Fiorentina le hizo la maldad al Lyon y nos mandaron a volar, las esperanzas de ganar algún trofeo se ven cada vez mas lejos.

Una Champions sin el Liverpool… ¿como iba esa frase?

Esperemos que se pueda ganar la Europa League, ya es hora de que algo bueno pase.

We are going thru a very tough time now… our team needs our full support. I’m very frustrated with the boo boys … and those given humiliating comments. We all know our team is not doing very well but they didn’t deserve to be booed by their own fan. C’mon guys… we all knows why didn’t peformed. Each and every game we played have their own distinctive factors on why we didn’t performed…don’t generalised it. I would like all Koppites to read/sing & understand back each & every words of our anthem…at the end of the storm..is a golden sky..walk on thru the wind..walk on thru the rain..tho’ your dreams be tossed & blown..walk on, walk on..with hope in your heart..& you’ll never walk alone.. you’ll never walk alone.. 

There is no way to emphasize sufficiently the importance of brotherhood in walking the journey of freedom from addiction, as well the journey of masculinity.

We need one another as men in order that we would be real men. What is it that hinders us from reaching out to ask for the support of our brothers, even in a time of emotional and spiritual need? Whatever it is, we must renounce that inertia; that impulse to hide; that strong pull toward rugged individualism. In the moment of temptation there is nothing to be gained from resisting the strength which a brother _ or brothers _ can lend.

We need to know that we will never walk alone. We need to be the sort of men who do not let our brothers walk alone.

The stakes are simply too high. When all is said and done the man who will not call out for help will be the one regretting his fierce independence as he sees the wreckage wrought in his life from temptation that flowered into sin and took him down. His wife, kids and reputation in ruins, that man will think: “If only I had just called a brother.”

Again, how instructive are the great stories. It was not Frodo alone who took the ring back to Mordor, it was a Fellowship. It was not one soldier behind enemy lines bringing back Private Ryan, it was a group of soldiers together. We have been lied to by that segment of popular culture which elevates Rambo and John Wayne as the depiction of what it means to be a man.

Men need each other. And in the company of men, a man finds who he is. And it is those men who band together who do what is truly heroic: they move into the world to offer a strength which comes from God and is not corrupted by fleshly intentions.

Mientras uno escucha Fearless de Pink Floyd, especialmente al inicio y al final del tema, se identifica a una multitud interpretando, con clara entonación de hinchada de fútbol, el coro de una canción: la del himno del Liverpool F.C. de Inglaterra. Cantar el himno del club antes de cada partido, es un verdadero rito para la hinchada de los reds (para quienes se quieran dar un tiempo, pueden buscar en youtube y verán un lindo espectáculo… Por lo menos desde mi futbolera apreciación). Indagando un poco acerca de la relación entre la letra de Pink Floyd con el himno del Liverpool F.C., me encontré con que este último corresponde a una canción titulada You’ll never walk alone, la que gozó de gran popularidad en Inglaterra. La canción fue escrita y compuesta por Richard Rodgers y Oscar Hammerstein para el musical Carrusel (1945) que prepararon para Broadway. El éxito del espectáculo terminó por llevarlo a la pantalla grande con la película Carrusel (1956), lo que hizo que You’ll never walk alone terminara por popularizarse tanto dentro como fuera de Estados Unidos. En Inglatera, si bien fueron conocidas las versiones de Elvis y Frank Sinatra, la más popular fue la que interpretaba un grupo de Liverpool: Gerry & The Pacemaker. Este hecho hizo que rápidamente la afición del Liverpool F.C. la cantara antes de los partidos de su equipo, hasta el punto de transformarla en su propio himno. Además, la frase You’ll never walk alone hoy es el lema que versa en el escudo del club. En cuanto a la intertextualidad entre Fearless y el himno del Liverpool F.C., creo que es un trabajo que cada lector debe asumir… Yo ya cumplí con mi parte.

Why Reds? There are so many clubs out there. So, why Reds? Their history perhaps? They are one of the most successful football clubs in England and Europe afterall. Or the crest? Well, the crest is ‘attractive’. Elaborated Shankly’s gate, liverbird, the wisely chosen motto and the spirited flame of the torches. Or maybe their star players?! Torres and Gerrard. Who’s to blame? Both of them are not only amongst the best in their position in the footballing world, but also the vital member of the world-renowned national set-ups – Spain and England. Yes, this football club does have everything. Well, pretty much everything. The supporters are fabulous and beautiful. The stadium is one of the best. Structurally, old but majestic, just like a medieval fortress, if you know what I mean. The manager is one of the best, if not the best. Don’t blame me, Real Madrid tried to lure him. What do you think? Okay, they offered Carlos Queroz the job too. And now the run of 7 defeats in 8 games. Maybe I’m just thinking too much. Yeah, maybe.

So, why Reds? Of all the great clubs in the world, why Reds? What so special being a kopites? Simple. It’s the spirit of the club. The Kop Spirit. More interestingly, it was well summed up in the club’s anthem – You’ll Never Walk Alone. So many occasions and yet the club, the players and the supporters never failed to show this spirit. Being the victor or even in defeat and sorrow.

The great Bill Shankly used to say, “it’s (football) more important than that (a matter of life or death). Why did he said this? Again, it’s the spirit of the club. From the birth of this wonderful club, to the Heysel and Hillsborough Tragedy, or the greatest comeback at Istanbul, or even for all the most wonderful Kopites, such as Liam and Michael to name a few. The spirit of the club never fails. So, for the spirit of this club, I am a Reds. I’m glad to be a Reds. For I know I’ll never walk alone, even in defeat and sorrow.

Yes, it doesn’t take a genius to figure out that this club is suffering its worst run of form in recent years, but, lest we forget, we are Liverpool FC, we are Kopites, and we are the supporters, even in defeat and sorrow. We must support each other till the moment they denounce their association with our club. Having said so, I’d say Rafael Benitez is included.

“Any defeat hurts someone with ambition and someone who is hungry for titles. But it doesn’t matter how many times you fall down – what matters is how many times you get up and keep trying to be the best.”

“That’s what we have to do now. We have to go back to our principles, sort out the problems we’re having and go back to being the Liverpool everyone wants.” That is what Pepe said and I am in full agreement with him.

La neta, ya despues de la derrota de ayer ante el Fulham mucha gente pide la cabeza de Rafael Benitez, aunque creo que definitivamente no es la solución a la situación de los Reds si me gustaría que se hiciera otra cosa al respecto, lo que sea… menos darle gas al mister.

Desde aquel gol del Sunderland muchas cosas malas han pasado, se han perdido 4-5 juegos en lo que va de la temporada, en comparativa contra las 2 de toda la campaña anterior parece que estamos retrocediendo a pasos enormes; me parte el alma que un tipo como Cesar “el chelito” Delgado entrara de cambio en ese juego de Champions contra el Lyon de Claude Puel, un gol de ultimo minuto, eso si, le dimos en su madre a los Mancs con un 2-0, pero me queda un sabor amargo aun y despues de eso.

Ya vienen los ultimos 3 partidos de la fase de grupos en la Champions League, y a mi parecer, necesitaremos mas que buena suerte para librar al Lyon y al Debreceni en sus canchas, el juego contra la Fiorentina se me antoja complicado aun y estando en Anfield…

Well when I saw this all it made me say was “Damn i want to go to a Liverpool match”

I’m just pushing the chimes into place when my friend’s stepmother tells me to run off to the rest of the band. They’re standing in multiple circles, seniors in the center, pit, auxiliary, and battery after them, and then in order of instrument. I feel bad because I’m sweaty and have to grab onto their backs, but I do so anyway. The guy next to me drops his arm after a minute or two and it is done in silence, despite the fact that we’ve spoken before. We’ve even given each other the thumbs-up sign, but we do this without words.

He brings his arm back up in a few minutes, when the drum major begins to conduct the band. I don’t know if I’m holding onto the guy next to me the right way. The other person beside me is a girl, so I know she won’t take it the wrong way. But he’s tall, taller than me, and I can only reach a little above his waist. It’s not like I’ve had much practice, anyway. My eyes dart around the circle, wondering where to look, resting for the most time on the drum major, but looking away lest he get the wrong idea. They fall on his face and look away, and I scan the crowd for people I know. I’m worried that if my head moves too much, people will stare, so I stop and resume looking at the drum major like we are told to do on the field.

The notes rush, and I miss the traditional hip shaking. I always do. Then it slows down and a blush spreads over my face because I’m afraid people saw that I didn’t move and don’t think I forgot. I realize I’m way too concerned about it and nobody even noticed.

The final note is blown and held out. People drop hands and embrace each other. I stand alone in a writhing sea of arms and backs, glancing around nervously and wonder if someone’s going to hug me like they did at the first football game, when everybody wanted to see everyone else and figure out how the whole hugging thing went. Was it like this or this? How does he hug, how does she hug? My friend steps forward when she notices my awkward position and hugs me for a full five seconds. I’m not much of a hugger, but figure this is all the hugging action I’ll get for tonight, so I throw myself into it.

I look around but can’t see the pit. I get the sneaking suspicion that they’re avoiding me. I am A Wallflower, someone who Doesn’t Hug, who Doesn’t Play Dirty Games. When I hug, I stand next to someone and pull in close for three seconds and there’s always an awkward aftermath when I’m wondering what I should say and they’re wondering if they can leave. I say goodbye and they leave right away.

Most people hug like there’s no tomorrow. They pull another person close into their chest and do so quickly. They laugh or say they had a great game, and walk away to hug someone else, walking past me as if I had suddenly become a rock in the road or a sticker on the trailer. In times like this, I’d rather become a chime than have to endure the awkwardness.

Most people  are comfortable in their bodies and are able to do almost anything without worrying. I’m not. When I get nervous, I shake and twitch so much it looks like I have a problem. When someone tries to get close to me, I wonder why and my mind always falls on the physical experience. I get nervous and I shake and I don’t hug right, so people never come to me looking for one. I am there for them when they need me. I can listen to them cry and make them feel better, but I can’t joke with them. I can’t play dirty games, and people don’t come up to me looking for a hug.

“I grew up in a military family – and my role models in life were my Mom and Dad, Lt. Colonel Earl Woods. My dad was a Special Forces operator and many nights friends would visit our home.

They represented every branch of the service, and every rank. In my Dad, and in those guests, I saw firsthand the dedication and commitment of those who serve. They come from every walk of life; from every part of our country. Time and again, across generations, they have defended our safety in the dark of night and far from home.

Each day — and particularly on this historic day –we honor the men and women in uniform who serve our country and protect our freedom. They travel to the dangerous corners of the world, and we must remember that for every person who is in uniform, there are families who wait for them to come home safely.

I am honored that the military is such an important part, not just of my personal life, but of my professional one as well. The golf tournament we do each year here in Washington is a testament to those unsung heroes. I am the son of a man who dedicated his life to his country, family and the military, and I am a better person for it.

Tiger Woods’ 2-minute, 5-second tribute to our nation’s military was delivered January 18th at the Inaugural Celebration in Washington, DC. It is said he had been subjected to intense pressure to attend and offer remarks especially so by liberals who have demeaned and criticized him for a decade for not joining their ranks. Yet, at the Lincoln Memorial, instead of paying homage to Barack Obama, Tiger paid tribute to our soldiers. Not once did Tiger mention Obama, the inauguration or the new administration.

Understanding that expressing his love for America and his appreciation for our military men and women would disappoint the national news media and the liberal left, he did what he thought was best for the people of our country. But Tiger, being is his own man, just as his father taught him to be his own man. Somewhere over that cold, gray Washington sky, Colonel Earl Woods was smiling down on his beloved son. And there will be one more crying hug waiting for Tiger when the time comes that he passes through heaven’s gates into God’s arms.

What’s that you say? You did not previously know what Tiger said? You did not see a video clip of him speaking on any national television network? You did not see a photo of Tiger at the Lincoln Memorial offering his remarks honoring our military. You did not read a story in the NY Times? His appearance at the Inaugural Celebration had been widely hailed and promoted in advance by the Obama inaugural organizers … yet January 18 when he came and spoke … afterwards, a black out. The Flamingos si costituirono a Chicago all’inizio degli anni ‘50, come gruppo “Doo Wop”, su iniziativa dei cugini Jake e Zeke Carey.

Per gli esperti sono considerati la migliore formazione vocale mai apparsa nel panorama musicale internazionale, anche se a livello commerciale furono nettamente surclassati dai Platters.

“I Only Have Eyes For You” (1959) fu il loro successo  più importante; ma altri brani, come ”You’ll Never Walk Alone”, “Jammin“; ”Crazy Crazy Crazy” e “Rock’n’Roll”, armonizzati ed arrangiati  in modo eccellente,f urono apprezzati più da un pubblico d’elite che da quello di massa.

La carriera dei Flamingos proseguì negli anni, pur subendo diversi cambi di formazione, fino ad arrivare ai giorni nostri: un fatto curioso che ci fa piacere ricordare è una piccola soddisfazione che il gruppo si prese nei confronti della Pepsi Cola, quando la stessa, nel 1998, fu condannata a pagare 250.000 $  per aver impropriamente usato in una pubblicità televisiva il brano “I Only Have Eyes For You” senza chiederne l’autorizzazione preventiva.

There is an interesting quote below by Michael Wells from page 170 of his book ’Sidetracked in the Wilderness’ (USA, 2005, ALP).  What are your thoughts about what he says?

The only way out of failure is faith.  We do not wallow in self-pity and guilt, but we allow failure to bring us to a place of true dependence, which will bring maximum productivity as Christ lives His life through us.  Regrets are for unbelievers, not for those who walk in Christ’s righteousness.

Talking about food, I found some tips for how to boost your mood without using food from page 548 of Dr Christine Northrup’s book ‘Mother-Daughter Wisdom’ (New York, 2005, Piatkus)

Aerobic exercise increases endorphins, the ‘opiates’ of the brain.  It also decreases excess cortisol and helps offset food cravings.  Meditation also enhances opiate levels in the brain and decreases stress effects.  Ten to twenty minutes per day is adequate.  Breathing deeply through the nose into the lower chest and abdomen decreases stress hormones and enhances mood.  Napping is another strategy for mood enhancement – especially in the sleep deprived.

I think there is in friendship, an instant recognition – a kind of loving.  It needs just a word, in passing, the touch of a hand – yet parting is loss and the tiny ache of regret stays with us always.

Bridgette Bentley sang at the Crystal Cathedrals church service, and I just fell in love with her voice, it is very beautiful.  One of my all time favourite songs is ‘Never Walk Alone’ that is sung here by Nita Whitaker.

I hope you realize that, three games into the season, you’ve already lost as many games as you lost all of last season.  I don’t see a 19th league championship in your future anytime soon, though hey–at least you’ll never walk alone, right?

…genauer gesagt der ewige Kampf zwischen Schottland und England, fand gestern im Celtic Park in Glasgow statt. Gespielt wurde natürlich Fußball, und diesmal ging es um die Qualifikation zur Champions League. Celtic FC spielte gegen den FC Arsenal aus London.

Für mich war es der erste Besuch im Celtic Park, und als ich kurz vor Spielbeginn ankam, war ich überwältigt von der Stimmung. Man kennt “You’ll never walk alone” ja durchaus aus deutschen Stadien, aber aus den Kehlen von zehntausenden Schotten (die paar anwesenden Engländer wurden größtenteils übertönt) klang es einfach nur atemberaubend – mir klingelten sofort die Ohren. Gänsehaut pur, auch wenn ich mit Celtic ja eigentlich nichts am Hut habe (eher im Gegenteil, aus bekannten Gründen).

Das Spiel selbst sah eine sehr engagierte Glasgower Mannschaft, die aufopferungsvoll kämpfte, aber vor dem Tor zu harmlos blieb. Arsenal wartete eigentlich nur ab, und machte dann aus quasi 1 1/2 Chancen 2 Tore – das ist die Effizienz einer europäischen Spitzenmannschaft. Schade für Celtic, die mehr verdient gehabt hätten. So werden wohl die Rangers der einzige schottische Vertreter in der Champions League bleiben, auch wenn natürlich das Rückspiel in London erst noch gespielt werden muss.

Celtic vs. Arsenal

Die Stimmung wurde durch die beiden Gegentore natürlich nicht besser, auch wenn die Celtic-Fans ihr Team auch danach weiter unterstützten – Hut ab! Arsenal-Fans hörte man eigentlich erst nach dem 2:0 für ihre Mannschaft, als klar wurde, wer hier als Sieger vom Platz gehen wird. You only sing when you’re winning…;-)

Alles in allem ein schöner Fußballabend mit einem tollen Spiel und einem glücklichen Sieger. Thanks, Martin, for the ticket!

Na so was. Beim Durchhören einiger älterer CD`s finde ich eine mit Fußball-Liedern. Nicht schlecht, da habe ich gleich Stadion-Atmo in der Bude.

Und es taucht eine bereits mehrfach diskutierte Frage auf: Welches Lied ist das geilste?

Als vereinstechnisch unbelasteter Hörer, bin ich nicht durch eine eigene Hymne beeinflusst. Mein Favorit ist eigentlich „You`ll never walk alone“ in der live-Version aus dem Stadion an der „Anfield Road“. Dicht heran kommt aber schon „Glory Glory Man United“.

Vielleicht stelle ich das mal bei Twitter zur Abstimmung.

För några nätter sedan hade jag en mycket märklig dröm. Jag befann mig plötsligt i spelargången på en okänd arena, men man kunde höra You’ll Never Walk Alone sjungas i publikmassorna som bänkat sig för att se den här premiärmatchen. Jag hade ljusblå tröja på mig, med nummer två på ryggen och fick besked om att spela högerback.

Helt plötsligt var spelet i gång och mitt lag blev snabbt tillbakatryckta. Någon gång under pressen ser jag Micah Richards och Richard Dunne i likadana tröjor som jag. Laget jag spelar för är ju för sjutton Manchester City och vi spelar mot Liverpool i Premier League-premiären. Jag får bollen och rensar i väg den mot en djupledsspringande rödlätt kille. Han når inte riktigt bollen och när han vänder sig om för att visa att det var en bra slagen boll, visar det sig vara Rasmus Elm som spelar i mitt lag. Och någonstans där slutar drömmen eftersom jag sparkat av mig täcket och nu vaknar av att jag ligger och är svettig och skakar av köld.

I dag kom det fram uppgifter angående att Rasmus Elm är aktuell för Manchester City, ja de har till och med haft scouter på plats på Fredriksskans för värdering under Kalmar FF:s toppmatch mot Elfsborg. När jag läste detta kom naturligtvis drömmen tillbaka till mig och jag började fundera på hur mitt liv skulle sett ut ifall jag inte haft ett kaputt knä. Kanske, men man vet aldrig. Och det gjorde mig lite deprimerad.

Hur som helst. Det vore väl fantastiskt häftigt om Manchester City, klubben som värvat storspelare efter storspelare, nu satsar på en svensk icke färdigutvecklad talang i stället. Men det vore inte det bästa för svensk fotboll och framförallt inte för Rasmus själv, såvida han inte har oanade stålmannenkrafter inom sig att plocka fram ur sitt, förmodligen, fjuniga bröst. Ska han till England torde Everton eller Fulham vara rätt väg att gå och kanske då helst de förstnämnda. I Liverpoolklubben tror jag att han har kapacitet att slå sig in och då är det nog mer utvecklande att få spela i ett lag som i allra högsta grad kämpar om att slå sig in bland de stora fyra (de kom femma, dock nio poäng bakom Arsenal på fjärdeplatsen, och tio poäng före Fulham på den sjunde).

Själv skulle jag tacka nej till att spela för Manchester City, dels för att jag ett ben i United-lägret, men också för att jag aldrig skulle vilja spela i en matchtröja där klubbmärket inte sitter till vänster, så som om det vore där man tänker sig ett hjärta. Det finns inget större misstag än att sätta klubbmärket mitt på bröstet.
