David, the Psalmist knew first hand as a shepherd, how powerful young lions are. While tending his father’s flock of sheep. David witnessed a lion capture one of the lambs he was responsible for. With boldness and the knowledge of the Lord in his heart, he delivered the lamb right out of the lion’s mouth by his beard. (1 Samuel 17: 34-38)

Young lions are powerful beasts, they are easily recognized for their strength, cunning and fierce nature. Young lions first display stalking behavior around three months of age, although they do not participate in hunting until they are almost a year old. They begin to hunt effectively when nearing the age of two. So they start off life VERY capable. Yet, even with this impressive resume’, they still roam about at times hungry searching for food to satisfy their daily needs for survival.

Our entrance as human beings into this world is far less impressive. Compared to the young lion, by two years old, the only thing we’ve mastered is working our parent’s nerves, through a series of tantrums. We learn to look to our parents as our source for everything, food, clothing, education, protection.

As we come into adulthood, like young lions, we realize that in life, everyone is trying to survive. Some do better than others in their career of choice. Others struggle trying to find their way in this world.

But, in Gods eyes we are ALL in need of HIM… for our survival and salvation.

We need to realize as children, our parents are responsible for us. As adults, it’s OUR responsibility to recognize God is our source. Our Father. Looking unto God, our Father and trusting in him is the most powerful AND effective thing we can do. It doesn’t require us to be men of great stature or posses worldly strength. When we trust in God, he goes to battle for us. He’s the supplier of our needs.

Great and small.

Spiritually and physically.

God is everything, and those who look to him as THAT shall never lack ANY good thing. Be blessed knowing that we have it all in Christ Jesus!

The New York Public Library’s Young Lions benefit party Monday night got off to an innocuous start. Library donors in their 20s and 30s gathered under the glass dome of the Bartos Forum in the main branch at 42nd Street, avoiding the dance floor while the DJ spun hits from their youth (Whitney Houston, etc.).

The night was optimistically titled “A Bright Future,” and a giant inflatable light bulb suspended from the dome’s peak reinforced the theme. More>

ENGLAND face hosts Sweden tonight in the first of the semi-finals.

Stuart Pearce’s side took top spot in the tougher-looking group B thanks to victories over Finland and Spain, and a draw against Germany last time out.

Defeat to Italy on matchday two cost the Swedes top spot in group A, but the hosts have still found the net an impressive nine times in their first three games.

Sweden’s progress to this stage has been driven by two prominent partnerships. Joint coaches Tommy Soderberg and Jorgen Lennartsson have overseen their team’s progress off the pitch, while on it the attacking duo of Marcus Berg and Ola Toivonen have produced seven goals between them so far.

The hosts’ critics will argue that aside from the front two, the team lacks star performers and are dependent on the goals of Berg in particular. But it is a collective, if occasionally no thrills team ethic that Swedish teams traditionally build their foundations on - a formula England have consistently found problems solving at senior level, without a win against Sweden in over 40 years.

Whether this Swedish ‘curse’ applies to tonight’s contest is up for debate. One man unlikely to believe in such quirks is England boss Stuart Pearce, who must call on all his years of international experience if his team are to lift the trophy on Monday.

Pearce has already proved he is not adverse to making tough selection decisions. He substituted Theo Walcott at half-time in the opening match of the tournament against Finland, and left the Young Lions’ most prized asset on the bench for an hour against Spain. England won both games.

Whether to unleash Walcott from the start or save him for the second half when the Swedish defence shows signs of tiring is one of many selection headaches for Pearce, who created a few more tough decisions for himself on Monday.

The draw with Germany was yielded with a virtually second string line-up, stating the strength in depth Pearce has at his disposal. Goalkeeper Joe Lewis’ second half appearance ensured every player in the England squad had played some part in at least one group match.

18 year-old Jack Rodwell scored in the 1-1 draw four days ago, and is sure to be in Pearce’s thoughts after an impressive all-action display against the Germans. While Middlesbrough winger Adam Johnson picked up the UEFA man of the match award on the night, having also started against Spain before making way for impact substitute Walcott.

England’s only injury doubt has been Gabriel Agbonlahor, but the Aston Villa striker is fit after hobbling off against Spain. His replacement Frazier Campbell opened the scoring for England that night in Gothenburg, and Campbell will be hoping to make the starting line-up this time round at the Nya Gamla Ullevi.

Sweden have greater selection concerns, with the forced absences of Pontus Wernbloom and Emir Bajrami through suspension. Soderberg and Lennartsson will be hoping travelling north to Gothenburg doesn’t put the hosts off their stride having recorded two convincing victories in front of their passionate home support in Malmo.

England – Key man – Theo Walcott

Whether he appears from the start or off the bench, Walcott’s fearsome pace adds a real cutting edge to England’s three-pronged attack.

Sweden – Key man – Ola Toivonen

Marcus Berg may have stolen more headlines with five goals in three games, but Toivonen’s intelligent movement and supply mean Berg’s performance could rest largely on the contribution of his strike partner.

Perrow’s prediction – With a fully fit and well rested squad to choose from, England should also benefit from not having to move away from their team headquarters in Varberg. The less experienced Swedes may feel the strain of travelling north and facing tougher opposition. I’m going for 1-0 to Pearce’s boys.

ENGLAND manager Stuart Pearce has called up two fresh faces to his squad for this summer’s European Championship.

Newcastle defender and under-21 skipper Steven Taylor was forced to withdraw with an achilles injury, and has been replaced by Richard Stearman of Wolverhampton Wanderers.

Stearman has two under-21 caps to his name and was an ever-present for Wolves in their Championship winning campaign. Equally comfortable at right-back or in the heart of the defence, Stearman is likely to act as cover for Manchester City pair Micah Richards and Nedum Onuoha, and Chelsea’s Michael Mancienne, who are all expected to start England’s first match of the finals against Finland in Halmstad.

Stearman is joined in Pearce’s final 23 by Tottenham Hotspur winger Danny Rose, who replaces injured Manchester United striker Danny Welbeck. Welbeck withdrew from the squad with a knee problem and Pearce has put his faith in 18-year-old Rose, who spent the last two months of the season on loan at Watford in the Championship, making seven appearances for Brendan Rodgers’ side.

The call-up of Rose suggests Pearce is set to use a 4-3-3 formation in Sweden, a tactic he deployed successfully in qualifying. England are now left with only Gabriel Agbonlahor and Fraizer Campbell as recognised centre forwards in the squad, with Theo Walcott and Adam Johnson the most likely candidates to provide support out wide.

The England boss rejected the chance to call-up Stearman’s Wolves team-mate Sylvan Ebanks-Blake - who topped this year’s Championship scoring charts with 25 league goals - preferring to strengthen his options in wide areas. Meanwhile, another Wolves man Michael Kightly was also overlooked at the expense of the largely unknown Rose, suggesting Pearce is intent on building a group of players for future campaigns.

Rose joins West Ham United’s James Tomkins and Andrew Driver of Hearts as the only uncapped players at under-21 level in the England set-up. They will all be hoping to make their debuts when the Young Lions play their final warm-up match before heading to Sweden against Azerbaijan in Milton Keynes next Monday.

Welbeck will not be celebrating scoring for England this summer.

The final deadline on squad announcements is tomorrow, so Pearce must act quickly to call-up two new names ahead of England’s training camp in Spain this week.

Wolverhampton Wanderers duo Richard Stearman and Sylvan Ebanks-Blake are likely to be in the manager’s thoughts, having both enjoyed excellent seasons in Wolves’ Championship winning campaign.

Meanwhile, England’s most-capped under-21 international James Milner has received a call-up for the senior team, after Michael Carrick was forced to withdraw from Fabio Capello’s squad for the upcoming World Cup qualifiers against Kazakhstan and Andorra.

Milner has played 42 times for his country at under-21 level but has never been capped as a full international. The Aston Villa midfielder joins Arsenal’s Theo Walcott in both squads - something unlikely to please their respective club managers Martin O’Neill and Arsene Wenger, with their men facing a busy summer of international action.

El Festival Internacional de Publicidad Cannes Lions se celebra anualmente en la ciudad francesa de Cannes. En el participan agencias publicitarias de todo el mundo mostrando contenidos difundidos por diversos medios (televisión, radio, internet, prensa, etc). Este año el festival abrió una convocatoria muy interesante; el concurso estuvo abierto del 15 al 17 de mayo y la dinámica estuvo en realizar un video publicitario en 48 horas con el tema dirigido a una acción de preocupación mundial. A partir del momento en que se cerró la convocatoria, se abrió un espacio de dos semanas en el que el público vota los videos en el canal de YouTube, y basándose en las visitas y votos, un jurado escogerá a las dos mejores propuestas de campaña de publicidad. El premio para los ganadores es el viaje todo pagado al festival publicitario en Cannes para participar como un equipo más entre los nominados. Aún quedan seis días para votar los mejores videos, les sugiero que se den una vuelta al canal de YouTube para ver las de las propuestas. Por ahora les dejo algunas por aquí.

This studying thing is killing me; missing events is against my nature. This seems like a negative sign in terms of law school. Why isn’t going to burlesque shows and art exhibits a job? Sigh… Well, for those of you with free time there are some great events this week.

Tonight at the Japan Society you can learn the subtleties of sake:

Koji-making is the heart of the sake brewing process. Koji is steamed rice onto which a special mold has been grown with great precision and skill that converts starches to sugars, which in turn are fermented to yield alcohol. Making good koji requires precise regulation of temperature and moisture, and nothing has a greater impact on the final flavors and aromas of sake. Like much of sake brewing, koji-making is more art than science. Sake expert John Gauntner discusses the art and science of making koji, what it is, the myriad ways it can be accomplished, and how tiny changes to koji can result in major differences in sake flavor. Followed by a sake tasting.

For those who don’t know, Cannes Lions addresses the challenges facing today’s marketing and communications industry. Delegates from more than 90 countries are brought together for a week of discussion, debating, learning and training; at the end of which they grow a mane and become a lion.

Excitingly, YouTube and Cannes Lions have partnered up in search for two young creatives to win an all-expenses paid trip to this year’s Festival and fill a new 38th place as Team YouTube in the 2009 Young Lions Film Competition. All you have to do is be born after 1980, make an ad and spread the word!

YouTube will release a a brief at midnight on the 15th May 2009 for a 60 second viral advert aimed at raising awareness for an international charity. You then have exactly 48 hours to complete and upload the advert. Two weeks is given to create a massive viral buzz around your tour de force  – generating as many public views as possible by what ever means.
