started off as an idea for an updated red riding hoot, it was the first personal sketch i’ve had the energy to do just for no other reason than ‘remember why you love to paint’.

I’d like to continue this to final completion but i love so many little things about this and some of its rougher qualities.  thanks all!

It really reminds me of being younger. You know how when you’re little, you could spend all day in the pool. I did underwater tea parties, underwater gymnastics, I had about 20 different mermaid personas…

It’s so quiet under the water. It feels kind of magical.

During my Words and Images class today, we viewed the film adaption of the manga Battle Royale, written by Koushun Takami.

The movie depicts a dystopian future in which classes are selected by lottery to participate in a game. The children are supplied with food, water, and a weapon, ranging from a paper fan to an automatic machine gun, and told to kill each other. Only one survivor will remain in the end, and if nobody is killed, everyone will be killed by the detonation of a metal collar around their neck. 

Quite honestly, it was one of the most disturbing movies I have ever seen. I’m not sure why anyone would think to make a comic about this situation, let alone adapting it to a film. Thankfully, the blood and gore was far from realistic, making it very easy to distance yourself from the suffering the characters experience, but I still could not shake the overall feeling of injustice at the entire situation. The ending, while slightly romantic, leaves us with the realization that while this couple did “beat the game” by managing to escape the island together, every single one of their other classmates was brutally murdered. 

One reason this movie really struck a chord with me is the fact that I have been recently researching the politics of the G20 Summit meetings and the recent talk of a New World Order that politicians are referring to more and more often. Battle Royale clearly demonstrates the way a government can exercise absolute power over its citizens when it has an alternative agenda to the citizens’ interests. To imagine that such levels of control could be on their way for our society is absolutely horrifying.

It is interesting to think about the fact that Americans are so unaware of the way the world is run these days. After watching a few documentaries, I have realized that, at the very least, these issues demand attention. Without the awakening of many citizens to the tyranny of those in control, our grandchildren could be experiencing events just as dehumanizing as Battle Royale.

It´s time for some caribbean lifestyle! This boy is standing at the door to the cigar factory in Dominican Republic. It´s amazing how much happier peopple are in caribbean than in Europe for example. Well at least that´s what it looks like.  I really recommend that you go there and enjoy it, great peopple and beautiful scenery!

I think that there is a woman at work who hates me because I’m young, white, college-educated, and her boss.

Tonight I walked in front of this old school I used to go to many years ago. It’s still the same but with minor differences. The swing sets are gone. Some bricks are mildly undone.

I wasn’t the cool guy at school. I was the silent type. I was shy. During recess, I had some funny jokes to tell, and I was sure that they were funny, but I wouldn’t dare to tell them. At some point some cool guy would walk in and say something funny. I remember I wanted to be like them. I didn’t want to be bullied. I wanted to laugh and yell and act like a little man.

I remember this very cute and cool girl at school. I was so much in love with her. I think she was too. But there was this thing. This limit. She had cool friends and I didn’t. Sometimes she would reach to me. Sometimes she would come to me and talk to me but every time she would do this, some cool friend of her’s would jump in ” Hey, why are you hanging out with this weirdo? ” and she would leave with that person.

So I ended up watching her evolve as a young woman through the years. During high school she stopped coming towards me. We now were in separate classes. Sometimes I would sit in the cafeteria and watch her. Her boyfriends would never treat her right. I wanted to beat the hell out of them and save her. I knew I was able to treat her right. But I never had the strength. I didn’t have it in my arms, I didn’t have it in my heart and I didn’t have it in my soul.

Then I became very sick. I stopped going to school. I stopped going everywhere. I stayed at home. I read. I wrote. I listened. I watched. I began to think. By myself. I began to talk. I became stronger. Maybe not in my arms, but in my heart and soul. And that’s 2 out of 3.

As the years flew by, she went away like the others. I stayed here in my little hometown. I was alone, but I was also with myself. I found myself through these difficult years. I built myself. And now, here I am.

And there she is.
