Have you ever been in a remotely similiar situation as this? For example, where you’re talking with someone you’ve just met and you get your iPod out, and so you ask them what kind of music they like. And they reply, “oh, lots. I like lots of different genres”. You give them your iPod, and they hate every single fricking song.

I honestly love all kinds of music. I’ve been getting into gothic metal (Evanescence, Within Temptation) over the past year, and I’ve also really liked stuff like Linkin Park, System of a Down etc. Nu Metal, I think the genre is?

Now, I’m starting to like British rap. There’s just something that I absolutely love about the London accent that rappers like Dizzee Rascal have. I pick up that accent really easily, I end up using it when I meet my second cousin.. I don’t really like any other rap, except for Eminem. His songs are actually entertaining y’know? You don’t have to be really into rap to enjoy them. Click more, for the music videos etc.

Tinchy Stryder’s You’re not alone (in Sugar they had an article about where they went to the filming (or atleast the beginning) of this music video, he sounds really sweet). There’s just something about how he says on in you keep holding on that I love

I fell like I’m in one of my darkest nights/ Not because of depression or whatnot (although that could be a factor). But because of where I am. How I’m filled with fears. How I’m treading water to keep from sinking under. God is my best friend. But my closest earthly friend seems to be heartache. I have had to face the music all by myself. I do feel oh so isolated.

There’s One who hears my cries, my groans, my wimpers, and knows exactly what to make of them. There’s One who is my Father. There’s One who desires a true relationship with me. There’s One who wants the real me. There’s One who is absolutely amazing. There’s One who lets me struggle with Him. There’s One who is close to the brokenhearted. There’s One who will see me, no matter how hard I try to hide. There’s One who I’ve forsaken but He won’t ever forsake me. There’s One who never gives up on me. There’s One who loves without reservation. There’s One who has a beautiful, extrodinary plan for my life. There’s One who shaped me with His own hands.

Well I feel like I’m picking on Tinchy Stryder a bit. This will be the fourth time he’s been the subject of a post here in the 3 weeks since I started this blog. But at least this time it’s about the music.

Latest single ‘You’re Not Alone’ is a very close imitation of well, ‘You’re Not Alone’, a hit for Olive in 1997. It’s a step up from Chicane’s ‘Hiding All The Stars’ but there’s not much else positive to say about it.

Tinchy takes on the role of ‘irritating radio DJ’ constantly interrupting the song by talking. If you’ve heard any of his recent songs you’ll be familiar with the typical content. It’s the usual stuff again here, about what a supportive guy he is, while rhyming ‘deep’ with ‘weak’, ‘inside’ with ‘outside’ and so on.

He’s a keen Star Wars fan, prancing about in the video wearing an all black two-piece with the letters S.I.T.H on it. In his next video he’ll be wearing Darth Maul face paint and holding a toy lightsabre, while rhyming ‘dog’ with ‘frog’ and ‘cat’ with ‘hat’.

Yes, yes, yes it’s nice to have distinctive British artists I guess. You know, regional accents instead of the phony transatlantic twang so beloved by Robbie Williams. But I really think the critics might be giving this guy a free pass. This is just glorified karaoke. Yeah I know, I’m just a hater man.

Live version of song (originally by The Enemy) from about half-way into the gig (26th Sepetember, Severn Cellars). This features extra footage shot by Jamie on his N97, and he was a lot closer than I was so it makes for a slightly more interesting film.

For some reason, the minidisc behaved itself, leading me to suspect that it’s only the loud stuff that gets it upset, probably low-frequency vibrations. Or complete coincidence.
