1 On a Pale Horse : Death

2. Bearing an Hourglass : Time

–> 3. With a Tangled Skein : Fate

4. Wielding a Red Sword : War

5. Being a Green Mother : Nature

6. For Love of Evil : Satan

7. And Eternity : God

TYPE: Fantasy

RATING: 9/10

REVIEW:

Niobe Kaftan is an ordinary girl who has just been married to a boy who is younger than she is. After regretting it initially, she finds in him a special magical ability to transform mere songs to a full-fledged orchestra for all those who are in contact with him. Just when she realizes that she could indeeed fall in love with him, he is taken away by a twist in Fate.

With the help of her husband’s universiy professor, she then understands that his life was a sacrifice in lieu of hers and that if anything could be done, it had to be done by intervention of the Incarnations themselves. She then meets Thanatos, the Incarnation on Death, by killing herself in a bid to rescue him and is then taken to most of the other Incarnations hoping for some help. They regretfully inform her that they cannot help it at this time but that she now has a promising future.

Taking these words as mere consolation on the death of her beloved, she soon finds out that she is in line for taking up one of the Aspects of Fate itself; as Clotho, the youngest among the three Aspects!

At first, though it remains a boring read, it soon picks up its pace and becomes a page-turner.

Mr Brilliant wanted the big, green scoop in my clothes detergent’s box. He replaced it with another green cup similar in size, thinking that mama would not notice the swap. :p

Mr Brilliant wanted cookies from the top kitchen cabinet which is > 1.7M above the ground. He climbed all the way up and took two packets down. He gave mama one packet. She opened it and he tasted one cookie. He decided that he did not like this brand’s cookies but knowing that mama would not open the other Mrs Field’s cookies pack, he did this …… He gave the baby two cookies and fed his Cookie Monster the rest. He came to mama with his empty container and Mrs Field’s cookies. Unknowingly, she opened the second pack just to discover two minutes later that the baby’s hands were full and Cookie Monster’s mouth was stuffed. Hmmmm …..

Mr Brilliant made mama buy a new type of cookies which cost $16.80 actually. The moment he reached home, he requested her to open the pack, only to ….. feed his “pet”, Cookie Monster !! HMMMMMMM …….. I rather he learns how to play pet society or fishville so he can feed his virtual pets without me spending $16.80 ! Humphhhfffff !!

This guy had the best job in the world.. His name is Zane Lamprey and he got paid to travel to different countries and get drunk. After 3 seasons of the show being on the Mojo Network, Mojo folded and Three Sheets was without a home. After months of uncertainty the Fine Living Network stepped up and picked up season 4. Everything was going great, the show was back on and the fans were happy. That was until the Fine Living Network notified Zane that they too were folding.. In the picture posted, Zane sits backstage at the Belly Up Tavern in Solana Beach, California after performing his new stand up show, “Drinking Made Easy,” in front of a sold out audience.

–> 1 On a Pale Horse	: Death
2. Bearing an Hourglass	: Time
3. With a Tangled Skein	: Fate

RATING:	9/10

REVIEW:
I never though I would be a fan of fantasy fiction as much as I am now. This is the first book that Piers has written on the incarnations of the seven that are now doing the rounds. Due to unfortunate circumstances, I read the third one first and found it completely boring and threw it away. I regret that act now and will look for it again to read it once more with greater knowledge.
This book is about Death as an Incarnation and how he can ‘die’ and how he facilitates death. The story has too many characters at once that may throw you off the hook for a while, but as you continue reading you realize that you are hooked to Death and his work.
It all starts with the taking of souls and just when I thought that this was all there was to it, I was shaken out of it by another twist. The other Incarnations have been made known and we all know them briefly; just enough to make us understand what each one specializes in.
I absolutely loved the character of Death as is and in a way hope to meet him someday. The notion, though fantastic, is well impressed as you keep reading.
It’s an absolutely fun read and a definite must-have.

I used to suggest field trips. I also planned field trips for the schools. I coordinated and execute

I used to suggest field trips. I also planned field trips for the schools. I coordinated and executed them. I know the before-trip and after-trip’s work. Massive. The actual smooth running is challenging and important. I love field trips!

I went for most of my children’s school’s field trips, except for those at Zane’s EIPIC centre. I missed some of his childcare centre’s trips as I had to teach. How to take leave when you are a teacher?

Today, I went for one, my first with Zane’s current school. I am glad I went. I was hesistant when I know that I have to trouble my in-laws to watch Jeff as Jeff is more active now.

It was indeed a very different kind of experience. Firstly, the children are not like the mainstream children. They are children with special needs (ASD children). The school has almost 100 children now. But guess how many buses she needed? 5 long coach buses. I think each of these can take up to 44-50 pax.

Each class has 2 teachers and 4-6 students. One may think that it is a very good ratio and should be easy for the teachers. No no, definitely no. Can you imagine 100 Zanes and only 35 teachers ?

The school is wise. They planned one-to-one. How kind of them. But how to achieve this since they do not have 100 teachers? They strongly encouraged parents to come along. Those who cannot are allowed to send their domestic helpers. Still, the numbers were not enough. Thankfully in this little island of ours, there are kind souls around indeed. A group of green T-shirt volunteers came down to help. They took time off from work to come to help. They told their work to take day off. They filled in the gaps where we parents failed.

In Zane’s class, there are 4 students. I was with Zane. One mom came but she has a 2+ yo son to manage at the same time. One boy’s guardian is a grandpa. Zane’s teacher requested him to follow and he did. The last boy’s mum is a stay-at-home mum with a maid and her daughter is in a childcare and she did not come along?! She told the teachers this is to let her son learn to be independent? Hur ????!!! If the teacher had not ask grandpa to come along, it would be very taxing.

All went on fine. I know Zane’s teacher would love to help that mum with a toddler at the same time as her ASD son runs off at every opportunity, but that grandpa is too old to help his own grandson through the gym activities or to follow him in the maze. I could see that mom to two boys panting. Zane’s teacher took that boy who was not accompanied and her assistant teacher took the boy with the grandpa for the activities. Zane was automatic. He could see that his teachers were busy and their hands were full, so he did not really bother them or stick to them. I think he did not even go near them to request them to do things for him or help him. I guess he was glad that I was with him ?

Oh yes, i like the way Teacher M describes her 4 students.

“This one as you can see.”

“This one hops.”

“This one wanders off.” (Zane)

“And this one runs.”

Hahaha … must really have octopus arms to catch hold of all 4 .

At the field trip venue, the kids’ maze is HUGEEEEEEEEEEEE . Ok, I mean GIGANTICCCCCCCCC!!! Three storeys high. I almost died. Not because of climbing up the stairs. That would be easy. But to squeeze through the giant-web-step-holes to get to the top. I made Zane climbed all the way up, just to realise that that channel did not lead us to the slide. Haiz . Zane was more facinated with the coloured balls. He enjoyed himself very much.

The physiogym exercises were very good. I am so glad that the school engages the gym’s instructor to come weekly to give the students gym lessons. The whole place is very well planned and the instructors are very clear in delivering their instructions. One of them can even remember Zane and calls him by name. That warmed my heart. Good people God has sent to the school and Zane.

The teachers are really amazing. At the same time, they know how to have fun too. They went down the slides themselves too! So cool! It is good to have young teachers in the midst, it pumps fresh and fast blood. It makes the whole team alive. It is also wonderful to have male teachers in the team. They form a different male element which the boys need (85% are boys), not forgetting their strength, stamina and zest. The school is on a very right and good track. It takes so much guts to be willing to implement so many changes within 1-2 years. Things are moving definitely. Initially at snail paces and now at a faster pace. Thank you, P and teachers, for all your hardwork.

Till next field trip in 2010. Thank you for extending the invite to us parents. Appreciate much.

Due to privacy reasons, both for the students and the teachers, I have decided not to take any pictures of the trip in the end. Actually …. where got chance ?? hands full lah !! kekeke …. So, no pictures for this entry .

There are a couple of things which touched my heart when I was at the field trip.

1. The mother with a toddler and an ASD son? The ASD son is about 7 and when the children had to put on shoes, she told her toddler to wear his shoes on his own and she knelt down to help her ASD son with his shoes. The little boy can fend for himself anywhere he went among these big special kids and adults. At one point, he was tasked to find his kor kor’s sock which dropped into the pit of balls for his kor kor while his kor kor just happily enjoyed being buried by the coloured balls.

I think I will be doing this with Jeff and Zane soon. Even though Jeff is 6 years younger than Zane, he will have to resume the responsibility in taking care of Zane with us too. Heartwrenching and sobering thoughts at the same time.

2. There are two Indian boys who take very very good care of their ASD younger brothers. They brought their brothers through every part of the maze and even made their brothers try the slides. They are such sensible boys. I praised them personally and they just smiled shyly at me.

Zoe is doing this too. She needs to do this joyfully. One thing is that Zane is stronger than her physically even though she is older. And she gets discouraged with Zane doesn’t obey her. Lord, grant her wisdom, strength and favour with Zane.

When Daddy and Mummy pass on …. please take care of your ASD brother, Zoe and Jeff. If you both really cannot manage the middle age Zane by then, mummy and daddy won’t hold it to you if you have to place him in a home. We understand that you will have your own families to take care of. You try your best. That is all we ask. Thank you.

What may be my last presentation is at last ready … I still want to call it a ‘tape

What may be my last presentation is at last ready … I still want to call it a ‘tape’, but of course they are not anymore!

I handled mainly studio work at WHSV, so there is not nearly as much new material as I would have liked … every day was pretty much like the next at WHSV, but I have started the demo with a quick weathercast from a cold winter’s morning.

Thankfully I am holding up pretty well, so my look is not that much different than what you see on some of my older work … OK maybe a little older look than when I was on CNN, but you have to go a long way into the tape (ahh it is not a tape) to find that short clip.

As the presentation is just under an hour long, 59 minutes and 3 seconds to be exact … it is so long because there is so much more that I offer than just a weather forecast … it has to be in six parts to be on YouTube … remember if you would like a full DVD just e-mail me for a copy kirk@kirkclyatt.com.

I’ve reworked many parts of the demo, so I am uploading it all again. I’m not going to replace the ones that have already been posted … just post the new ones here.

BTW: I have now lost about 20 pounds from what you see in the clip from WHSV … too poor to eat too mcuh during the summer!

Now here is part one …

If that has gotten you at least a little bit interested in what I could do for your station, either radio or TV, then you might want to take a look at my resume;

At last, the final part … part six!

It is just amazing how much TV I have done … I’ve had a hard time pulling out what I hope you’d like to see.

What I am most interested in is getting back to more of a personality focused AM show like you’re seeing here in some of the clips (either radio or TV).

Of course in this economy, its getting to the point that beggars can’t be too choosy.

I am also looking to go back to reporting … outside of serious crime, I have reported on just about everything else. I pride myself on tying to have at least some background knowledge on just about any topic that I could be assigned.

If you keep watching the next few parts you’ll see there is very little I won’t do … about the only place I draw the line is if its a felony or fatal.

This is part three …

And here is part four …

Two more parts to go!

The final DVD, about an hour long, might be slightly different, if you’d like a copy or better yet know of any good job leads, remember either radio or TV … let me hear from you at kirk@kirkclyatt.com … all comments are welcomed and encouraged.

Oh I understand that if I mention www.blogsurfer.us in a post they will get me more hits … we’ll see

What you see in these two parts is mostly work from Baltimore and Philadelphia … yeah, it was done a couple of years ago, but I trying my best to age gracefully … here is a recent picture of me and Z.

After attending Zane’s school’s SPORTS MEET, I wrote …. Dear Mrs Principal,

After attending Zane’s school’s SPORTS MEET, I wrote ….

Dear Mrs Principal,

Congratulations on a very successful first inaugural Sports’ Meet 2009 yesterday! I attended the event and came out in awe.

Initially, I was not expecting much or should I say I didn’t know what to expect from a group of autistic children/ youths running races aided alongside by their teachers. Your school once again performed so well on this platform of showcase that it beat any faulty video clip that you attempted to air.

In just that short two hours with your staff and children, I saw teamwork and the background planning, which had been put into this Sports Meet. I saw big-hearted volunteers and sponsors mingling in the crowd to lend support in all areas. I saw the generosity of XYZ Secondary School who graciously allowed their premise to be used. All these external help testified the great relations and rapport you as Principal have with them.

In my previous job scope as a VP in the Kindergarten I taught in, I had to do planning and coordination for school events too, thus I do understand the amount of work your staff and you had to put in for an event at this scale.

I write once again to applaud your staff for their dedication to their call of teaching these very special children. I witnessed at least two children hurting their teachers physically and these children were handled with patience and persistence with no hint of annoyance or irritation from the teachers. This blows my mind. I cannot imagine going to work and knowing that my students may hurt me. It takes a lot in any individual to be so professional and forgiving.

I will pray for each and every staff and child in your school to be protected from any physical harm inflicted unintentionally (or even intentionally). I also asked myself, “How to fault these children? They may or may not know what they are doing. And even if they do know, can they really control these undesirable actions? And even if they can control, can they ….?” That is why I walked out of your school in awe and my respect for your staff went up many notches.

Being up close and personal, I also witnessed how skilful Teacher MNO and Teacher ABC are in handling their charges. They each have 8 arms and 4 eyes literally. They patiently shepherd each boy. I felt rather bad that Zane demanded so much attention from them as he tried to cope with the changes in place, timetable and the noise level.

From this brief observation came the revelation that your teachers really take the time to know their children. I saw some of your teachers could even react before the children acted. It is as though they can interpret every single movement and twitching of eye or expression from their students.

I also commend the MC for knowing every child’s name and cheered for them individually. Wow! Seems like every teacher knows almost every student?!

Thus, I pray with you that your teachers will stay with you for a long long time; at least long enough to see the new vision for the school really takes off and break current boundaries.

Thank you for giving me this opportunity to come close to the school and have a little more contact with your teachers. May God bless each and every one of them and that all that they do will not be in vain. I can see that their children know that they are cared for and being loved. At least I see the way Zane leans on MNO and ABC or even look at them in the eye, I know. Thank you, dear teachers. I am once again blessed and humbled.

With much appreciation,

Mrs Jesselyn Ng

Blow what?

Blow the JJZZJ.

Blow wind blow.

Blow what?

Blow the bears.

Last night, all my three angels fell asleep in my master bedroom.

We shifted Jeff’s cot’s position. He was too happy to sleep initially. We gave him a pillow too and he had a long time deciding how to sleep on it. At 11pm, I peeped into the big kids’ room and found none there! They were both on my bed!

I held missy’s hand and led her back to her bed.

As for Zane? “Do not move him when he is asleep.” That has been our “rule” for Zane since his baby years. Once we move him, he will be awakened and will not sleep anymore.

So, mummy and daddy slept in his room. But this mummy was worried that she couldn’t hear the babe, and so she shifted herself back. It was a night of blow wind blow.

We guessed that Zane woke up. He tried to squeeze with Josh in his single bed but failed. Thus he came back to sleep on the master bed. But …. before doing that, he took out two bears from under his bed. He placed one bear next to Josh and one bear next to me. He gave Jeff a card in his cot too and Zoe also had a card to sleep with. Hahaha …

We do think that at times Zane shifts his toys to wherever we are in the house is to play with us. He plays and we do our stuff in the same room. That is his way of playing “with” us. Same for the way he tries to play with friends. He will just place the objects next or near them and walk away. That to him means playing.

After this night of blow wind blow, Josh decided not to be too insistent in stopping Zane in coming over to our room. His middle child syndrome is definitely getting stronger especially with baby clamouring for attention all the time. In fact, of all these shouting weeks, last night was the least and softest as he was always next to one of us. Our big baby hur? At the end of the day, it is TLC he wants and it has to be from us.

We shall baby him till this phase passes. And we believe it will.

Ok, tutoring continues. . . . ciao .

In all kinds of food, Zane trusts his sense of smell more than his hearing, sight and touch.

Yesterday, I served him his usual duck meat and sauce. He sniffed at the sauce and stopped me from putting it on the duck meat. I sniffed at the sauce too. Errrr, I heated up the wrong sauce. So to him, this sauce must go with this duck meat from this stall and that sauce will go with that duck meat from that stall. Hello, lu3 zhi4 is lu3 zhi4 what! It is a treat to have sauces to go with the meat, any sauce from anywhere, right? And so I thought. But apparently not for him.

This morning’s duck meat was bought from another stall as the market is still closed. He sniffed and was disinterested. He was force-fed and he gave me that look.

“Please buy Uncle’s duck meat only in future, ok? His braised duck meat is THE BEST! And the sauce too!”

Monday morning, I served him his rice. He sniffed at it again and gave me a look.

“This is not our Royal Umbrella rice, right?” He still ate as he had no other choice. But only one serving. My son can smell out good fragrant white rice and cheap white rice. Haiz .

Another time, he wanted the pint of ice cream in the fridge. Ben and Jerry’s mind you! He rejected it the second round. Why? Enough sniffs to tell him that it is not Anderson’s ice cream!

Conclusion? His nose is best friend with great, good and expensive foods.

sigh sigh sigh ….

This conversation was in Hokkien. I tried my best with my very broken dialect.

G M – grandmother to an autistic child, who fetches him from the school bus and takes care of him till his parents pick him up in the evenings.

>>>>>>>>>>

GM : The child whom a man fetches back to you by car is your son?

Me : Yes.

GM : That man is your ….. ?

Me : Father-in-law.

GM : Mine comes back by school bus. One trip one month cost $85!

Me : I am thankful that my father-in-law ferries my son. To and fro to fetch him from school from our block can take an hour including the walking.

GM : Your son studies how long in this school already?

Me : Only started in April this year.

GM : Oh, mine is ten this year. He is with the school for 2 years already.

Me: Can’t tell that he is ten. He is rather small built.

GM : How old is your son?

Me : 7

GM : Oh yah, he is big.

GM : Don’t know what his school teachers teach him all this while leh, 2 years already, not much improvement like that. Still cannot write. Still cannot converse. Every time tells him to do writing, he sits for one second and runs off. Teachers no good no good. Not able to teach him.

Me : It is not that the teachers are not good. Our boys are special needs boys. They learn differently. Cannot write no big deal. Main thing is that can communicate and let us know what they need. And as this is a special school, their primarily goal is to teach the students independence and life skills.

GM : Meaning?

Me : Like able to dress himself, feed himself, clean up after himself, bathe, cook simple meals etc. After all these, community living skills like taking the public transport, buy food, come home independantly etc.

GM : Har? How to buy food? Mine doesn’t even know how to count money.

Me : Maybe those food courts that use cards. Easier.

GM : I see mine like that now, very hard lah. Next time how to go and work?

Me : They are special. One step at a time.

GM : How come like that har? How come they like that?

Me : I don’t know. I only know they do not have a choice. They didn’t choose to be autistic.

GM : Next time will be ok or not?

Me : I don’t know. Hopefully will get better and better.

GM : If really no cure, whole life he like that, I very kek sim (heartache).

Me : We all are. OK, think your bus is coming soon. See you.

Back to School – It’s the end of thanksgiving break and tomorrow you’ll have to wake up early and go to school. Put on that uniform and head to the busses hoping you already did your homework. But you’re freaking out because you’re too stressed. Then you get to school and you find that there’s added stress because class elections are around the corner.

Yeah, there’s a lot to freak out about but it can all be handled if you just take a little time to sort it out. So I’m working on getting all my homework done, with it piling on as the year progresses. Also, no joke about the election thing. So there was a meeting about stuco one morning so i went to it just to see what it was about. By the end of the day someone came up to me and asked me if the rumor that i was running for president was true. It wasn’t at the time, but it is now. Wish me luck. Im worried that it’ll be too much stress, but i’m hoping i can handle it.

Now on a note not related to school – so i didn’t get that far with nanowrimo (because of school) so i decided that i would keep writing for it and pretend like it never ended. Maybe that was just the thing to keep me motivated to start of with the whole novel. Right now I’m at 10000 words so I have a ton to go. I’m thinking that I will post a little excerpt because there hasn’t been anything worth reading on the site in a while (besides abby’s wonderful posts and pictures of course).

Xanda and Zane were leaning over Mollie trying to explain it all to her, but it was just all so confusing, everything all so sudden. Other things became superficial to Mollie, and she didn’t care about anything else except for that moment, then. Superficial. That was the word Xanda always used, and Mollie finally understood what she meant by all of it.

This was real.

No Ian couldn’t just sit back and let this happen. He was strong. Powerful. Invincible and had not ever been defeated and wasn’t about to have his first loss. This was his brother, weak – no nearly as extraordinary as himself and this stupid other girl, ha, even weaker than Zane, her sister – normal, utterly plain with such a mind that he could so simple have controlled. He staggered up. “Attack” his inner voice told him. Instincts took over, and he lunged at Xanda.

Xanda whipped her head around just fast enough to see gleaming black teeth snapping at her and within 2 seconds flat she was pinned to the ground. Ian’s claws dug into her wrist, his knees grinding against her stomach. She lost her breath. Only the color of evil could be so red, so bloodthirsty a color as his eyes. Xanda tried kicking Ian off but she could barely move her legs. He was slashing his teeth at her, saliva, dripping onto Xanda’s face making her feel like she was going to barf. By now, it wouldn’t matter if Mollie woke up. She was one of them now, and it would continue even if she were awake. Her nightmare was now real. Great.
