Als ich mir gestern die ZAPP-Ausgabe vom 28. Oktober 2009 angeschaut habe, musste ich unwahrscheinlich lachen, als ich die Schlagzeilen der BILD gesehen habe.
“Wellensittich überführt Kinderschänder”
“… und hier hängt eine Schlange im Toaster fest”
“Katzenmumien als Dünger in England”
Sowas nennt man dann wohl “unabhängig” und “überparteilich”.

Kai Diekmann, der Chefredakteur der BILD ist ja neuerdings auch Blogger. Bloß mit Blogging hat sein Blog wohl wenig zu tun. So kann man beispielsweise Unterhosen mit der sinngemäßen Aufschrift “Ich liebe Kai Diekmann” kaufen. Interview? Was ist ein Interview? Achja, ein Selbstgepräch.

BILD berichtet auch gerne über todsichere Fälle. So wurde zum Beispiel Nadja Benaissa geradezu schuldiggesprochen und, siehe da, sie wurde mittlerweile freigesprochen. Schließlich war hier “das öffentliche Interesse wichtiger als die Privatsphäre”. Und dazu musste man wahrscheinlich auch jeden Bekannten von Nadja Benaissa interviewen.
Oder: Ein Mädchen aus Kassel ist gestorben und sie hatte die Schweinegrippe. Gab es da einen Zusammenhang? Nein, am Ende des BILD-Artikels bezweifeln die Angehörigen einen direkten Zusammenhang, zumal das noch gar nicht geprüft worden war. Bloß zieht der durchschnittliche BILD-Leser bei dieser Art von Berichterstattung sofort den Schluss, dass sie an der Schweinegrippe gestorben ist. Und, was hat diese Berichterstattung bewirkt? Nunja, es gibt über den Tod des Mädchens eine SchülerVZ-Gruppe mit über 300 Mitgliedern.

Natürlich sieht BILD ein, dass sie nicht die Süddeutsche ist. In der BILD-Werbung wäre Johannes B. Kerner “ein bisschen mehr Bildung und ein bisschen weniger Meinung lieber”. Bloß… habe ich in der BILD noch keine Veränderungen bemerkt.

Si am inteles ca incepand de luna viitoare clientii Zapp au de ales intre a trece pe Cosmote (probabil cu niste conditii preferentiale) sau a-si lua telefonul in boccea si a pleca spre alte zari.

Acum pe mine ma doare cam la basca de faptul ca raman fara telefonul ala gratis. Nu prea il foloseam din mai multe motive: aparatul (aparatele, ca au fost mai multe de fapt) e o mizerie, calitatea sunetului e execrabila si acoperirea slabuta. Dar pentru folosit in Bucuresti pentru a mai micsora factura Vodafone era ok. Plus ca a mers o buna perioada de timp pe post de internet de rezerva. Nici nu-mi pare rau de disparitia unui concurent de pe piata de telefonie. Era oricum bazat pe o tehnologie depasita (sau inadaptabila la conditiile europene), neputand niciodata sa le puna probleme celor doi duopolisti. Dar prin achizitia asta s-ar putea sa mai prinda putere Cosmote, de care mi-a placut cum si-a facut intrarea in Romania. Si o sa vedem o lupta mai corecta intre retelele de telefonie. In fine, una peste alta CDMA-ul lui Zapp trece in istorie, alaturi de NMT-ul de la Telemobil si LEMS-ul Suntel. Adios!

Hello, everyone.  I’m back.  This time I’m focusing on fashion, because you guys need some help. Trust me on this. I took a break last night and went out to the casino for a quick Hold ‘Em tournament.  Sitting across the table from me was a man who had on a baseball cap with a wave cap on, a throwback jersey, and his jeans sagging so low you could see his boxers.  The problem is he had to be at least 40.

You have to realize that life is not a rap video.  You can’t sag your jeans all the time.  You can’t wear a 6X white t-shirt when you’re only 5′8″ and expect to be taken seriously.  And no matter how many times you’ve seen it, Air Jordans do not go with dress pants.

Have you ever seen the movie “Hitman”? Agent 47 (played by Timothy Olyphant) was a smooth cat, dressed to the nines.  If a man who makes his living shooting at people and throwing them in the trunk of his car knows the value of a suit and tie, you can at least have one in your closet.

About 6 years ago, I was working for a fortune 500 company in the Philadelphia area.  There were very few minorities in management positions, so we were a pretty close-knit bunch.  We tried to mentor some, as many people as we could, but some guys are just hard-headed.

I remember this guy named “D”.  “D” was a pretty smart guy and had a future, but there were just some things he didn’t get.

He he said I wasn’t “keepin’ it real” , called me a “sellout” and told me I forgot where I came from.  He said this because I pulled him to the side and told that having a nice white dress shirt, a silk tie, and dress pants did not make his Timberland boots suitable office attire.

Based on my experience, there are a few things every man needs to have in his clothing arsenal:

Suits

This is a no-brainer.   Two at minimum, one navy blue, one charcoal grey. No yellow 12 button Steve Harvey specials.  No coats that make you look like  you’re trying to remake a Zapp video.  Two single breast, three button suits.  That’s all I’m asking for.

Solid long-sleeved dress shirts

With a suit you should wear white and baby blue shirts only.  And they have to be long sleeved shirts, unless you work the register at McDonald’s.  Save your yellows and pinks for casual days outside of the workplace (however, I’d question a pink shirt at any time).  French cuffs are acceptable on occasion. That brings me to…

Cuff Links

Something conservative. No dice.  No large diamonds that draw attention.  No links that look like spinning rims (yes, they do make those and I’ve seen fools wearing them).

A Watch

I know that in the days of Blackberry’s and Ipods with clocks on them that we rarely use a watch, but they really are a great accessory.  No bling. No diamonds around the face.  If you want a higher end watch that says class, Tag Heuer, Cartier, and Omega are all nice.  Or even a pocketwatch.  But don’t get it twisted; I’ve seen a $60 Fossil with more style than those gaudy TechnoMarine “shinin’ in ya face” wrist pieces.

Dress shoes

If you can spend $200 on a pair of tennis shoes or Timberlands, you can spend the same (or less) on a nice pair of dress shoes.  Cap toes, oxfords, wingtips, and dress boots are all nice and will go with a suit.  Choose something comfortable that says style.

Jeans

Here is my sleeper.  Every man should have a few pair of nice fitting jeans he can wear out.  You can switch up a nice pair of  jeans with a blazer or even one of your suit jackets.  Iron them or take them to the cleaners.  I actually like the term “denim pants” better because people will actually think about taking the wrinkles out of them before they wear them.

A few years ago, I have to admit that Kanye West wore the blazer/jeans style well.  It was a good look for young men.  Then he got on that leather pants/Liz Claiborne scarf sh*t and took it to the left (wish we could kick his ass to the left).

Hint:  If  you can put your jeans on without a belt and they fall to the floor around your ankles, they’re too big for you.

Now here are some things a man shouldn’t have in his wardrobe:

• Skinny jeans – I’m putting the worst offender first.  Under no circumstances should any man have a pair of skinny jeans in his closet.  You are a man.  You guys think I’m kidding but I’m going to start slappin’ any man I see with some tight ass jeans on.  It’s not manly.

• Rows and rows of Jerseys – No man should have too many jerseys.  What are you, 14?  A jersey for each of your favorite sports teams is ok, but to have rows and rows is unacceptable.  Grow up.

• Leather Pants – Unless you’re a professional wrestler, I can’t think of a reason any self-respecting man would have a pair of leather pants in his closet.  If you can think of one, let me know.  Then when I smack the sh*t out of you for even trying to come up with a reason for it, tell me how that feels.

• Long Black Trenchcoat – Unless you’re planning to be in a low-budget remake of “The Matrix”, take this out of your closet and burn it.

I’m not being hard on you, fellas.  I’m just trying to help you out.  If you’re going to be a man, you have to dress the part.  You don’t have to wear a suit all the time, but having your pants sagging off your ass all the time isn’t grown up.  There’s no law against wearing a dress shirt when you go out either.

It’s time to man up.

That title should be pronounced in your best approximation of the vocoder voice, such as was used by 80s greats Zapp on such hits as Computer Love. Why doesn’t anybody make music like that anymore?

Just like the Zapp song was being played on Vinyl, this is not entirely digital. In fact, it is built from 4 different sheets of scanned scraps of paintings.

I explain more and embed Computer Love after the jump. You know you want to embed computer love.

The reason I built this was because in 2006 I didn’t have a camera with high enough resolution to blow up any photos of my paintings to poster sized. But I wanted to make a poster because it sounded fun. I decided to get around the resolution issues by taking smaller res images and just layering them atop one another until I had an image the appropriate size.

This is made of over 60 layers of full sized 8 x 12 scans of individual scraps, each modified in photoshop. I got my poster- it hung in my office a few months and now I’ll probably use it in a collage. If I can find the damn thing.

I may do more of these. They are easier to store than actual paintings. But my to do list is longer than my have done list will ever be, so don’t count on it.

Anyways, here’s computer love.

I love the sax and vibraphone solos. I need to work some of those into my art. Soon we’ll be able to replace America’s highways with my to do list.

I ride my bike down 2nd avenue every day on my way to work. A few weeks ago, during the United Nations 64th General Assembly, there was a week where cops everywhere diverting traffic away from 1st avenue, closing down entire lanes on 2nd avenue, shuttling diplomats to and from the U.N., and generally making commuters insane. One morning on my way to work, the phrase “Protect Dem Diplomatz” popped into my head, and I knew it had to become a song.

I culled samples from about 20 different songs and just lined them up end to end, recorded some vocals and here is the finished product. I wish the refrain sounded a bit less like “Who Let the Dogs Out,” but it’s not bad for about six hours work, and it’s always nice to have an excuse to break out my vocoder. Oh, and since no one seems to understand the sample at the end except me, it’s Method Man saying, “he’ll be like ‘oh sh*t, that’s the jam!’”* Special thanks to Sarah for the “say whaaaaat?” at the very end.

Decine di strane sfere di pietra sono venute alla luce nell’area del Delta del Diquis, in Costa Rica. Sono enormi, levigate, perfette. E terribilmente scomode per gli studiosi, nella loro evidente dimostrazione di essere frutto di una tecnologia antichissima e sconosciuta. Un gruppo di ricercatori le ha studiate per due decenni, scoprendo che la loro disposizione non può in alcun modo essere considerata casuale. Compania Vodafone a lansat un nou abonament de internet mobil care promite viteza la conexiunea de internet mobila de 21,6 Mbps la un pret de 27 de euro + TVA si un trafic lunar de 16 GB. Bun….ce se intampla dupa ce iti termini traficul lunar? Poti sa iti arunci linistit modemul de internet mobil si sa mergi acasa la conexiunea pe care o stii de multa vreme pentru ca cei de la Vodafone reduc viteza de conectare la 128kbps pana la sfarsitul lunii. Si ei asta numesc oferta de internet  mobil cu “trafic nelimitat”, care mi se pare o tzeapa de zile mari.
Ah si la fel face si Orangele si Zapp-ul  ( Cosmote).
La ce imi trebuie conexiune mobila?  Daca nu am ce face cu banii…

Faced with a significant decline in faithful—2008 marked a watershed in people leaving the Church—and a ground breaking lawsuit, the German bishops’ conference has gathered in Fulda for its autumn plenary with that question at the forefront of its agenda.

 A Freiburg-based, retired canon lawyer Hartmut Zapp, refused to pay his Church tax but said he was still a member of the Church. Church tax is an annual tithe that is part of income tax unless one opts out (and it seems that the Church can choose to refuse you the Sacraments if you are no longer formally a member). Zapp’s bishop, who also happens to be the head of the German bishops ‘conference, disagreed. Archbishop Robert Zollitsch said that Zapp could not stop paying tax while claiming to still belong to the body of the Church. Zapp contested this, pointing to what he sees as a weakness between canon law and secular law.

He was taken to court earlier this summer. Zapp won the case. It was unprecedented in Germany.

Despite heavy discussions this week, Archbishop Zollitsch has said that they would appeal against the Court’s ruling. He said: ”We want to see if it is in fact possible in terms of state law to leave the Church in legal terms but to say simultaneously that it is not a departure from the Church.”

According to the German newspaper Die Welt, Zapp does not count himself to the rebels. His truck is with the uncomfortable relationship between the German Church’s identity as a body in the law and its spiritual role. He believes the German bishops, not he, are the ones in breach of the Vatican’s vision for the Church. He told the Welt earlier this summer, “My criticism is geared towards generally equating leaving the legal structure of the Church with a separation from the Church, as well as the threat of unjust application of the heaviest sanctions (which to my mind are not covered by the canon law) at lessened support of the Church.”

Carrefour, primul grup de distribuţie din Europa şi al doilea din lume anunţă lansarea unui nou serviciu care să completeze paleta actuală. Este vorba despre reîncărcarea electronică pentru telefoanele mobile, începând cu 1 septembrie 2009.
Este primul retailer din România care propune o soluţie integrată pe casele de marcat şi lansează noul serviciu valabil în toate hypermarketurile Carrefour, la toate casele de marcat.
Noul serviciu se înscrie în demersul strategic Carrefour de a oferi „totul sub acelaşi acoperiş” cu scopul de a acorda un avantaj în plus celor care aleg să-şi facă cumpărăturile în hypermarketurile reţelei. Serviciul este valabil pentru următorii furnizori de telefonie: Orange, Vodafone, Cosmote şi Zapp.
Valorile minime de reîncărcare electronică sunt de 4 euro pentru Orange, Vodafone, Zapp şi de 3 euro pentru Cosmote. Valorile maxime disponibile sunt de 20 euro pentru Orange, Vodafone şi de 15 euro pentru Cosmote si Zapp.
Implementarea sistemului pentru a acorda clienţilor acest nou serviciu a fost posibilă prin soluţia de reîncărcare electronică Epay. Aceasta a fost implementată în toate hypermarketurile Carrefour şi permite vânzarea codurilor de reîncărcare preplătite ale tuturor operatorilor de telefonie mobila din România direct la casa de marcat.
Conform unui comunicat al grupului Carrefour România, vânzarea codurilor de reîncarcare se face prin scanarea unui cod de bare, similar cu vânzarea oricărui alt produs, tipărirea tichetului ce conţine codul de reîncarcare efectuându-se dupăa închiderea bonului fiscal, pe imprimanta casei de marcat.
În România, Carrefour operează în prezent 22 de hypermarketuri şi 24 de supermarketuri.

Sfârşitul unei zile oarecum deosebit de obositoare. Din telefon, gâşte asurzitoare ieşiseră mai multe ca de obicei, urmate de  mistreţi grohăitori, într-o proporţie nemeritat de bogată. Başca bidiviul dădea semne de nervozitate, semn că se cerea dus cât mai curând în service-ul cel mâncător de bani şi timp… Pe scurt, nu prea eram în apele mele. Într-o asemenea stare, ce putea fi mai inteligent decât să sun la numărul secret din grup?… Zapp grup, fireşte!

Trag pe dreapta şi formez: 0788…  “Dac-o fi în aria de acoperire” – mă gândesc, cu toate că mai degrabă acolo are semnal, decât în zona Ieşilor… Ţrrr, ţrrr – în difuzor.

- Bună seara – zic cu un noduleţ în gât, neştiind la ce să mă aştept.

- Seara bună – se aude vocea cunoscută.

- Ce mai… faceţi ? – continui într-un mod absolut imbecil inedita convorbire.

- D-apoi, ce să facem… ceva de-ale gurii căutăm. Prin pădurea nostă. (I-auzi : “pădurea nostă” – hahaha).

- Şiii…  este ceva?

- Este. Pentru cine se pricepe… Caut nişte bureţi, că mi-i greu la stomac…

- Aha. Şi-s buni, bureţii?…

- Ei, buni!… Dacă mi-i de-o poftă, băiete, ce vrei? Las’ că de burtă am eu nişte fiertură, da’ mai încolo, pe sară, că tare-i amară…

- Şi încolo cum, tot linişte?… – întreb invidiind fiecare clipă din viaţă a individului…

- Linişte… I-auzi! – zice şi, probabil, îndreaptă telefonul spre  desişuri. Hă?!… Auzi?

Cam nu prea pot să aud liniştea, da’-i răspund politicos:

- Aud, cum nu. Îi frumos… Şi matale cum trăieşti aşa, izolat acolo – decid să trec la lucruri mai serioase – de atâta amar de ani…

- Ce ani, băiete?… Parcă-s zile, pentru mine. Eu mă sîmt tinăr şi-n putere şi acum.

Dacă mai aud o dată “băiete” fac o criză de nervi. La urma urmei, eu-s ăla care plăteşte factura, fir-ar să fie!

- Mda… – continui, şovăielnic, neştiind ce să mai zic. Ştii matale ce se întâmplă pe lumea asta, ce greu trăieşte lumea, ce necazuri sunt din toate părţile?… (Halal subiect de conversaţie – mă boscorodesc de unul singur, blestemându-mi timiditatea în gând)

- Ei necazuri, băiete!… Din astea or fost dintotdeauna. Dacă m-aş apuca eu să povestesc… Hehe. E drept, de mine nu s-or prins, că n-or avut de ce să se ţină… (I-auzi la el: figuri de stil, caterincă!…) Lumea trăieşte prea bine, ţi-o spune moşu’. Prea bine trăieşte. De-aia şi moare repede, că binele nu durează mult. Ho-ho-ho – râde, în timp ce calcă pe nişte trunchiuri ce gem sub greutatea lui. Da’ pe tine ce necazuri te frământă, de mă suni, aşa, dintr-odată?…

- Mă gândeam şi eu la una-alta… (Chiar, ce mi-o fi venit să-l sun?) Voiam să mai stăm de vorbă.

- Foarte bine ai făcut. Las’ că ştie moşu’. De câte ori îţi vine, sună. Io-s aici şi, dacă-ţi răspund, n-are nimica rău să se întâmple. De mine fuge răul, că i-i frică… – spune şi apoi hohoteşte de aud şi ecoul munţilor în cască.
