CDR > WAV (EAC with secure) > FLAC (Frontend level 8 with verify)

This is an uncirculated version, I think there are others in circulation. An edited version has been played on FM radio (without the songs that were not yet released at the time), and the master may have been stolen at the radio station. I don’t know about the other versions, but this one is very good !

Some work has been done on the first track’s level. The original recording started out much too loud, then went to low, so I worked on the gain to make it sound right (there’s still a little distorsion in the beginning, but I think it is unavoidable).

Tracks 18 & 25 * are two pretty long sections of enthusiastic crowd noise. I left them so you get the whole concert exactly as it has been recorded. For your listening pleasure, you may want to burn a CD without these two tracks.
Tracks 11 & 12 ** (fade-out & fade-in) were added to make a more pleasurable listening experience at the end of the first CD and at the start of the second one. When listening on a computer or any media that can accomodate more than 75 minutes of music, you can simply leave these two tracks out, so you get the whole concert in one go.

The performance by Zappa et al playing his father, Frank’s music. Check them out if you ever have the opportunity, even if you’re NOT a Zappa fan. Why? Because it will be one of the best musical performances you’ll ever see. Special guest appearance by Eric Johnson.
For the first time ever, yesterday I subscribed to a Youtube channel — made by someone who doe

For the first time ever, yesterday I subscribed to a Youtube channel — made by someone who doesn’t happen to be my sister. Found this guy by sort of an accident, browsing Warcraft related videos, and already I have become a fan. His name is Boogie, he’s a big guy, and he has a rather curious alter ego named Jessy, and another one named Francis.

Here’s Boogie answering some serious questions:

Here’s Jessy on WoW:

And here’s Francis complaining about D&D:

He currently has 95 videos on Youtube.

And while we’re at it, (as previously requested) here’s Kurt doing Frank Zappa’s “Don’t Eat The Yellow Snow” from the album “Apostrophe”:

Weird.

Watched a tv documentary on jazz yesterday evening. Much inspired by Boogie I’m gonna get philosophical about it, although I promise to keep it brief.

Some things in life, I guess, just makes sense to you. You understand it on an intuitive level because you can relate to it. Emotionally as well as intellectually. I used to hate opera, seriously, but then I went through a personal thing, and all of a sudden it made perfect sense to me. These days I listen to little else. However, I’ve never been able to understand ballet. For instance. I simply don’t understand what I’m supposed to be looking at — and I’ve never been able to understand jazz. I’ve tried, and I do have some jazz cds in my collection. Miles Davis, Monk, Mingus, and Coltrane. But I hardly ever listen to them. For I don’t get it. I can’t relate to it. There’s nothing much jazzy about my life … but I guess this is where I am wrong. But how to find it? And also, jazz (whether old or new) often has this wet blanket melancholy thing going on. Which I really can’t stand.

If you know of any good jazz cd that I might try, please leave a comment.

Amongst various lagoons, canyon wildernesses on the pacific shores, various places like Modjeska Can

Amongst various lagoons, canyon wildernesses on the pacific shores, various places like Modjeska Canyon and others, long haired naked sun worshippers, wandered in the naturelands, singing songs, eating fruits, fasting, praying, doing yoga, playing guitars in huts and befriending American Indians, all in the 1930s, 40s and 50s, before the SF rennaisance carnival and all its merry troubadours shone into the Haight and elsewhere.
Nature boys they were called and of various stock they were, of English, Jewish, of German and of other. Meditating and doing yoga, eating pure foods, sunbathing an waterbathing and connecting with the wilderness they were a different breed to the settled gold trailsters and cattle ranchers, they were America’s sadhus, babajis, yogis and sants. And they had inherited things which went back further, things of the German spirit and nature far from the Hitler-Nazi perversions.
We can understand this curious brand of nature mysticism in the works of Thoreau, of Emerson, but moreover we can see them also trickling in the background of Herman Hesse, in the founder of Naturopathy and its various historical clinics, some in California. Going even further back we can see the Rosicrucian and Paracelsian fords and pastures and their glimpses of places further east, in North Africa, in Morrocco, Spain and Damascus, Syria and India.
Oriental Nature Boy Mystics housed the river of traditions arcane and forgotton and a spirit of freedom.
And not all nature boys were celebate and single, as some took their girlfriends along as well.

Laguna Beach, a place in the ambit of the nature boy wilderness wanderings, took in curious surfers who had given up the car gangs of beachrealm, and took to surfboard, yoga and pure foods not to mention psychedelic alchemistry. But before this period, Laguna Beach also housed bohemian types, artists and was a faved retreat renowned for its natural beauty and somewhere amongst these were esoetric interests in a mysterious group named the Order of Loving Service who harked back to an important inspiration, a Baba Premananda Bharati, who in the first decade of the 1900s established various Krishna congregtions centered on an ashram in Los Angeles caled the Krishna Home. Many of California’s esoterically inclined came across it, one such being a Maud Lalita Johnson, a famed esoteric writer in her own way. Another called Elsa Barker famed for her many esoteric novels had contact with the first wave of Krishna Chaitanya devotion. Premananda Bharati belonged to the Krisna traditions of Chaitanya, the blessed madman and holy fool and incarnation of Krishna who bathed Bengal in waves of ecstatic love of Godhead. This Krishna baba had an influence of Gandhi and Tolstoy, but the two world wars meant that this period of the oriental in American esoteric latter day Rosicrucian traditions such as New Thought, Golden Dawn, Theosophical society and others were forgotton, remembered by only a few. But all that is known is that the Order of Loving Service published a book dedicated to Baba Premananda Bharati in Laguna Beach and that it was associated with the Royal Order of Tibet founded by George Adamski who was the pioneer of UFO abductee narratives. They were also inspired by the wriings of Lalita Johnson and it was her book with the dedication to Premananda that they published in Laguna Beach called Square. It was later in 1969 that another Krishna temple of a different lineage appeared in Laguna Beach, that of the Krishna tradition represented by a famed guru named Bhaktivedanta Swami which is more commonly known. Certain folk in this new Krishna temple in Laguna had links to another group named the Brotherhood of Eternal Love, whom we shall look at another time.

Nat King Cole did a song dedicated to a certain nature boy named eden ahbez or ahbe in which he describes this nature boy as being wise. This track of Nat King Cole’s was also covered by John Coltrane, the great jazz musician who himself was inspired by metaphysical stuff descended from the latter day Rosicrucianism as well as oriental mysticism. Another nature boy named Gypsy Boots was friends with various musicians of the sixtiees of which the major music tribes of SF and was respected by Jerry Garcia. Kerouac wrote about him, Frank Zappa was friends with him and he appears on the stages between band sets of certain of the major bands at the Monterey Pop Festival and Newport Festival. He inspired Sky Saxon of The Seeds, Arthur Lee of Love and Randy California of Spirit to become vegetarian, he was admired by Mama Cass as well as Garcia’s wife, who was once Ken Kesey’s girl, named Mountain Girl, a name with a nod to the nature mystic in and of itself. He appears with Zappa in his film Mondo Hollywood in 1968. Gypsy Boots was an American of Russian Jewish descent, born in San Fransisco in 1916, he was taught directly by Maximillian Singer another nature mystic in 1935 learning yoga and fasting and special diets from him after a period of travelling and living in nature. After a while, he was living with many of the prominent nature boy mystics of the time around Tahquitz Canyon and selling crafts in Palm Springs, the very place the Brotherhood of Eternal Love had an epiphany, according to certain historical annals which we shall look at later. He eventually after a period of living as mystical wild man and learning lots, was married in 1953 to a Lois Bloemker, and settled into living near Griffith Park in LA and had three sons. He opened a ‘Health Hut’ in Hollywood where he taught his wisdom of living close to nature.

Maximillian Singer, Gypsy Boot’s mentor was from Augsberg who spent many years travelling and living as a nature mystic in and around Europe, thus the mystical life and water curing, sun bathing, breathing, nutrition and the like was practised assiduously by him. He came to California in 1935 and whilst here inspired many Euro-American born nature mystics. In the Brotherhood of Eternal Love linked loose knit community of Topanga Canyon, he was revered almost as a guru figure, and later on he appeared at the various festivals, be-ins and concerts of the period.

Some that were associated with these brothers of nature were called to the akashic realm, that same part wherein which PBRs Rosicrucians dwelled, that place between the portals of Eulis a place where others dwelled and visisted from time to time, others such as Beatfreak not to mention certain folk of the Order of Loving Service.

Yes, this is the man behind the likes of “Valley Girl,” and “Don’t Eat the Yellow Snow.” Believe it or not, he’s even better at composing than writing off-color lyrics. In fact, if I weren’t interested in keeping this blog interesting, there would probably be a good two or three Zappa songs a day. Though it was written by a guy who was only ever recognized for his “comedy rock,” this may be my favorite jazz tune.

Grande, ¿no?

In honour of National Beard Month, a list of the 15 Scariest (and Most Culturally-Relevant) Beards of All Time. Like this one:

Rasputin – Grigori Yefimovich Rasputin’s beard may have led to the fall of the Romanovs. A Russian mystic, called by some the “Mad Monk,” he was the only person who could alleviate Tsar Nicholas II’s son Alexei’s suffering from hemophilia. We think his magic powers originated in his beard. As legend has it, he also used his beard to seduce the Tsarina and scores of other Russian women into wild orgies. We’re scared.

How did Zappa balance art and commerce throughout his life and career? Maybe not very well. The earl

How did Zappa balance art and commerce throughout his life and career?

Maybe not very well. The early Mothers seem to complain of almost starving on the amount of money they were able to get from gigs. The band took a very, very long time to start making any money. Also, Zappa’s assets were often tied up in tiring, expensive legal battles with all the record companies he worked with. So was he really that good at balancing art and commerce? I don’t thinks o.

Zappa seemed pretty naive at the start of his career as to how the business side of things worked. He had endless trouble with his record companies. He also seemed unnecessarily ruthless with his band, from what we’ve talked about. Business (commerce) is as much about keeping up a good public image as it is making money. Zappa seems to have done neither, on many levels.

In his defense, Zappa was able to manage the business side of things in order to be able to continue to create art. He was also able to wheedle a lot of favours and money out of people for his various projects – like for 200 Motels. But, it’s more of an ability to get people to do things and give him things rather than sound commercial strategy.

Another thing that we have to give Zappa is that he did construct a very particular image for his band. This image may not have worked to their advantage, but Zappa did construct it. He was the weird, dangerous guy, and his band were the weird long-hairs that played with him.

However – and this is a big however, Zappa was often alienating when he could have been commercially successful. As we continually mention in class, some of his best compositions have the weirdest lyrics thrown over them – he seems to choose to shove the puerile into his fans’ faces – and into the critics’ faces. I don’t think this is commercially or artistically sound, necessarily, but it’s what Zappa wanted to do as an artist, I guess.

So, my verdict, thus far, is that Zappa was a much better artist than he was a businessman. He understood business to some extent, but wasn’t very good at commerce in practice.

Imagine if the Japanese dude who wrote all the original Nintendo songs, like Mario and Zelda. Had an unhealthy obsession with RUSH and ZAPPA but modernized it with a twist of Tom Morrello guitar. Then and only then can you even comprehend the musical powers of BUFF CLOUT.

This 3 song demo is intense and precise math rock from deep space 69. What’s that you say? Only 3 songs? Well don’t worry these 3 songs clock in over 10 minutes and that’s with no vocals. The guitar and drums are so cohesive that they sound like Henry Ford must have felt when he stole the assembly line idea from Native Americans and secured himself as Hitler’s 2nd in command. If you like your Rock n Roll complicated, intense and trippy. Then check this duo out. Hopefully this Demo will only be the first of more to come. 3 songs. RECOMMENDED.

E a partida começou bem.

Polecam!

===[Por onde começar]===

===[No Spirit]===

Se o Mukade for defendido, faça {2D, 236P} imediatamente.

===[Dog Spirit]===

Defendendo o Zappa e cortando contra-ataques

[Controlando Dog e Zappa juntos]

Perto do oponente faça 2365+P pois, se o oponente tentar atacar, ele acerta o Dog e o Zappa irá usar o Mukade.

===[Sword Spirit]===

Aproveitar do alcance e ainda causar dano!

[Abusando do 63214+S]

Os pokes com Sword são {f.S -> 63214+S}, o 63214+S sozinho, o j.S e o j.HS. Mesmo que o 63214+S seja defendido ou erre, ele se recupera razoavelmente rápido, dificultando contra-ataques.

===[Ghost Spirit]===

===[Raoh Spirit]===

===[Outras técnicas]===

Dog: Mukade -> {dash j.HS, 5D, land, dash 2P…}.

Ghost: Mukade -> {dash jump, air back dash j.HS (cross-up)}.

In the history of Modern Music, Frank Zappa will go down as a Great American Composer. Embodying Experimentalism from the 1960s and surpassing it. 200 Motels was a culmination of the early work (my favorite period) of Zappa and The Mothers Of Invention. The conductor Zuben Mehta made Frank take his name off the credits. That’s his loss.
