Playing games on your cellphone used to be hard. The keypad you have to use is so small and the controls are not gamer friendly. Even though a lot of cool Java and Symbian games are available, only a few hard core mobile phone gamers play them. Things are about to change though with the Zeemote JS1.

The JS1 is actually a game controller that connects via bluetooth to your mobile phone.  This gadget is comfortable to use in your hands and is small enough to be stored easily. It runs on 2 AAA batteries that gives out an average of 40 hours of playtime. It’s compatible with most Sony Ericsson, Nokia, LG and Samsung.

This gadget is a must have to those who love to play cellphone games. Now you don’t have to worry about your keypads getting damaged. It’s time to get your game face on everyone.

If you are often frustrated with the small dpad keys that is on some Nokia devices, you will find this useful. I got a small gift from the people at Zeemote, I got their Bluetooth mobile gaming controller, also known as ZEEMOTE. This is Compatible with every Nseries and Eseries device, and also with the Navigators and Xpress Music phones that runs S60.

As the description on the box say, “this controller will connect with your device using Blue-tooth” The design is very ergonomic, It fits seamlessly in the hand and has a soft touch material. At the top there is a small joystick which is smooth enough, but it’s a tad small. Just below the joystick there is a D button which work as turn/off  if you press it long enough.

On the front there are two other buttons, “A and B” which will work as the soft-keys. On the bottom you will find the C button which is deep in the body of the zeemote. This button works as the cancel or back  soft-key.So that’s the reason for it to be embossed deeply, so you don’t click it by accident. You can do a different manual mapping, if you like.

The zeemote has a small blue light that will blink until its connects to the device. To connect it to your device you have to download an application from the Zeemote website, install on the phone. Then you have to turn on the Bluetooth on the device, and then application will ask you to connect to the zeemote. A long press the D button and it will connect to your phone. Easy enough but it can be improved. The Zeemote app should activate the Bluetooth when prompted to connect, instead of having to turn it on manually.

I have found it very usful when playing Ngage games, “I don’t have to be using the small keypad keys on my phone to play games” thanks to the zeemote. You can also control every menu on the cellphone, and browse every application there. But do you want to know what is the best use for this? You can hook up your Nseries to you TV using the TVout feature, making a bigger gaming experience. I tried this the other day, I was playing Ngage with my N85 and using the Zeemote as a wireless controller enhancing my gaming experience. I also tried some NES emulators and it was GREAT. And to make this better, the Zeemote people included a code for a free game from their library. This can also work on PowerPoint presentations or with the browser.

So, make your cellphone a complete computer/gaming console and try the ZEEMOTE. You will love it.

We’ve already talked about Nokia’s plans to partner with Zeemote in Germany. Now we see the first fruits of the joint plan, as the recently announced Nokia N85 will be sold bundled with Zeemote’s thumbstick controller – JS1. Under the deal, aside from including the controller in the box, the N85 will also come with 15 Zeemote-friendly demo games pre-installed.

As a side note, during this year’s Mobile World Congress in Barcelona I spent some time playing with the Zeemote JS1 and I must say I love it. Some helicopter flying shooter game was demoed and it felt so natural to fly around with Zeemote, rather than using a D-pad.

En la actualidad la verdad casi todos contamos con un teléfono celular, y si tienes acceso a los celulares de últimas generaciones tienes beneficios como: agenda, calendario con recordatorios, notas, cámara, reproductor de medios, acceso wap, radio, alarmas y personalizarlo con temas fondos y protectores de pantalla, pero hay una parte que a mi me encanta: los juegos!!! Que la verdad han evolucionado y podemos encontrar juegos de bastante calidad incluso sobre títulos conocidos y de la talla de: Resident evil, XIII, Splinter cell, True crime, Sims, Zelda, Worms, Prince of Persia, y muchos otros reconocidos.

Pues ahora para todos los que amamos los juegos y casi casi nacimos con el control pegado, aparece Zeemote, que es un mando para el celular que nos permitirá jugar mas cómodamente en el cel, esto mediante una conexión bluetooth, por el momento lo están distribuyendo en España junto con el Sony Ericsson k530i, y a pesar de que muchos creería que quizá su tiempo de vida será demasiado corto, pero lo desarrolladores de este aditamento ya trabajan en eso para conseguir venderlo en la compra de equipos como el antes mencionado, quizás no sea algo indispensable, pero la verdad es que si lo pensamos para juegos como los del N-gage cuyo control puede ser un poco mas complejo y puede llegar a ser más incomodo suena genial, y si eres gamer de corazón es un artículo muy atractivo, solo habrá que esperar a que llegue a nuestras tierras, esperando que su costo no sea muy elevado.

The recent MIT Enterprise Forum ‘Interactive Entertainment SIG’ event was another example of a side benefit of doing interim CEO / COO assignments – when each assignment is over I get time to ‘network’ at events like this (or the recent MIT / Polaris Venture event.)

This particular SIG is the brainchild of Michael Cavaretta member of the business-only law firm Morse Barnes-Brown Pendleton. Last summer The Boston Globe’s Hiawatha Bray wrote about how Boston has emerged as a video gaming hub, challenging similar regional hubs in Seattle and Austin. In his work, Michael sees many of the deals – both investment deals and development / publishing deals – being made by local game companies. Since the Boston-based game industry has historically operated in stealth mode, Michael formed this SIG as a way to promote the success of these local companies.

This meeting’s subject ‘Getting Started and Succeeding’ was addressed by a stellar panel of successful local game company CEOs including:…Jeff Anderson, Game Nirvana; Hank Howie, President, Blue Fang Games; and Omar Khudari, former CEO, Papyrus Design Group (and my boss at my last gig at Cecropia.) Game industry guru Rob Sebastian, CEO & Key Operating Partner, Ghost House Digital Studios flew in from LA and did a great job as moderator. Zeemote sponsored the night, providing plenty of food and drink as well has hands-on demonstrations of the world’s first compact wireless thumbstick for mobile gaming.

The good news for the audience was that we learned the details of how these folks raised money to start their successful ventures. The bad news was that – given the tremendous amount of consolidation that has happened in the industry, as well as the tremendous increase in the cost of developing a single game – the ability to raise funding today is a far more difficult challenge.

Una compañía especializada en periféricos, Zeetoo, ha anunciado un controlador especial para teléfonos móviles que tiene cierto parecido con el nunchako de Wii.

El Zeemote tiene como objetivo facilitar el control en juegos para móviles, uno de los puntos débiles en estos dispositivos, e incluye un stick analógico y botones, además de conectarse al teléfono móvil por Bluetooth.

La compañía tiene una versión del controlador con sensor de movimiento en fase de prototipo, del que todavía no se sabe cuándo se comercializará. Por el momento, compañías como Nokia, Motorola, Samsung, Sony Ericsson, LG, Sega Mobile, Fishlabs y Reaxion, entre otras, apoyarán al Zeemote, que entrará próximamente en fase de fabricación.

Ventajas:De esta manera tendremos la posibilidad de jugar a los juegos de nuestro móvil sin la necesidad de usar ambas manos, utilizando esta especie de joystick parecido al de una consola normal y corriente.

Inconvenientes: ¿Deberás cargar la batería del móvil y la del zeemote? xD
