Just a quick post this morning for those of you that might have missed David Letterman last night. Once again, the target of his lampooning was the ex-quitting governor of Alaska, Sarah Palin. His “Top Ten” list was the tips Sarah Palin could give about writing a book. It is hilarious. Do you think Palin now realizes that it may have been a mistake to publicly attack Letterman a few months ago? Was she not aware of the fact that he has a nightly television audience in the millions and he now has every reason to skewer her every chance he gets? Poor Sarah, will she never learn? A crowd of 15 protesters upset with the late night comic held signs and occasionally shouted as they stood across the street from Letterman’s studio.

But they were often hidden from view by the more than 35 members of the media there to cover the protest, and out-shouted by a few very vocal counter-protesters.

Michelle Malkin Looking Intelligent

Today’s targeted reich-wing pundit is Fox News contributor and columnist, Michelle Malkin. This weekend she jumped upon the David Letterman/Sarah Palin feud bandwagon. Nothing really original from her, she just mimicked the Palin camp line of attack that states that one should not resort to meanspirited name calling. Just like Palin and her cronies though, Malkin then proceeded to call Letterman a perverted child molester. Perhaps now she too will be honored enough to be the subject of a Top Ten List.

Palin’s whining again. This time because David Letterman talked about Sarah Palin’s trip to New York, saying she went to Bloomie’s to buy makeup in order to “update her slutty flight attendant look.” One can fairly hear her seething as she says of Letterman:

Sarah Palin called David Letterman “pathetic” Tuesday after the CBS “Late Show” host said the Alaska Republican governor sports a “slutty flight attendant look.”

“What a commentary there,” Palin said of the comment during an interview on conservative host John Ziegler’s Los Angeles-based radio show. “That’s pretty pathetic, good ole David Letterman.”

She goes on to say that Letterman is in there with the media “where everything is commentary and facts don’t matter anymore.”

And then that Letterman “picked up on that distortion” rather than talking about what Palin really did in going to a walk for autism and that it must have been a slow news day. Here’s a newflash, Sarah: Letterman isn’t journalist, he’s a comedian. The job descriptions vary greatly. A journalist reports news. A journalist might have reported that you attention-whored at an autism walk. A comedian makes jokes, and you are wonderful fodder for those. The “slutty flight attendant thing”? That’s what we call a joke. A joke on you.

It seems like Palin complaining on John Zeigler about how bad the media is to her is going to be an ongoing thing. It’s also not very bright of her politically. It makes her seem like a complete lightweight. We here at the Palinoscope are delighted that she can’t seem to shut up, though.

Another conservative dishes on the ditz queen and her lapdog, Ziegler:

However nastily and treacherously Palin’s media handlers may have behaved after the election, their only error during the election was to offer too much access to Palin, not too little. Those handlers faced a daunting problem: Their party’s nominee for vice president could not respond to questions without embarrassing herself. The handlers who kept Pain under wraps knew what they were doing. THad Palin refused all interviews during the campaign, there would have been some criticism, but it would have been forgotten by now – and the Gibson and Couric interviews would not be filling YouTube, ready to be rebroadcast in 2012.

Now Palin is hiring her own handlers, making her own decisions, speaking freely. And if anything, the results are even worse than they were in 2008.

Watch the Ziegler interview yourself, and you will see what I mean. Ziegler represented a new and subtle kind of danger for Palin, the overly friendly interview. Ziegler’s questions were all traps, no less dangerous for being set unwittingly. Palin stumbled into every one.

Again and again, Ziegler invited Palin to engage in self-pity and self-excuse – and again and again she accepted.

She tells us she was a victim of sexism. She tells us she was a victim of class prejudice. She complains about her media treatment – then insists she never watched any of it. She deplores the unpleasant personal comments directed against herself, while offering up some equally unpleasant personal comments of her own. She repeatedly shades the truth in order to escape blame for her own mistakes. (She won’t for example let go of our claim that there was some insult to Alaska embedded in Katie Couric’s simple question: “What do you read?”)

Rescuing an elderly woman from her burning home is all in a day’s work for Trooper David Kemp, he said.

“I don’t feel I’m a hero,” he said. “I’m just doing my job.”

But Vernon Ziegler, whose 80-year-old mother, Doris Ziegler, was rescued by Kemp Tuesday, disagrees.

“The guy’s a hero — no doubt about it,” he said. “He saved my mother’s life.”

Kemp, 29, was patrolling Main Street in Endicott Tuesday night when a 911 dispatcher told him to respond to a fire at 900 N. Rogers Ave. in Union. When he arrived, he walked into the smoky house through an unlocked door. He found Doris Ziegler sleeping in her bedroom, woke her and helped walk her to his patrol car, where she stayed until an ambulance arrived to evaluate her. She wasn’t hurt.

This is the first time in Kemp’s 3 1/2-year trooper career that he’s rescued anyone, he said. He told his supervisor what happened but didn’t tell his fellow troopers at the Endwell substation.

“I’m not one to brag,” said the Nichols native and Tioga Central High School graduate.

On Tuesday, firefighters from Union Center, Endwell, Endicott and West Corners brought the fire under control within 20 minutes. No cause has been determined yet but it appears to have been electrical, said Broome County Fire Investigator Chris Lupold.

One day after the fire, Doris Ziegler, a widow and retired clerical worker, stayed with relatives and was still shook up about the fire, her son said. He wasn’t sure how long it would take to repair the house but thanked Kemp and firefighters who saved the house.

“The quick response by all involved was very much appreciated,” he said. “We are fortunate to have these people in our community.”
