Meadiabook es un en el lector de e-books basado en tecnología Zii de pantalla táctil. Creative está trabajando en este nuevo producto que no utiliza la tinta electrónica siendo un equipo que suena más bien omo un reproductor multimedia ya que reproduce fotos, vídeos, texto y servicios es como una experiencia multimedia nueva.

Creative también parece,que estaría trabajando conjuntamente con editores para ofrecer contenido en su nuevo proyecto, en especial, con fuentes asiáticas como en Singapur, donde trabaja Creative en e-learning. No sabemos el aspecto que tiene el dispositivo, parece que contará con una gran pantalla táctil, lo que estaríamos ante un nuevo tablet.

Los responsables de Creative han anunciado en la rueda de prensa anual de la empresa de dispositivos multimedia que uno de sus nuevos proyectos  es la fabricación de  un lector de libros electrónicos aprovechando la tecnología Zii, que ya ha demostrado su potencia en los últimos reproductores de la firma.

El lector, que llevaría por nombre MediaBook, tendría una pantalla táctil, función de dictado para las personas con discapacidad y ranura para una tarjeta SD.

De confirmarse estas especificaciones, contando con la tecnología Zii, el MediaBook se convertiría en una de las referencias del futuro de los lectores de e-books.

Android on Zii EGG

ZiiLABS, subsidiary of home-grown Creative, released the first Android firmware for its Zii EGG device based on Android v1.6. (aka Donut). Folks over at AnythingButiPod had their hands on the Android firmware, hands-on review in video can be seen here.

The firmware is meant for OEMs and developers to begin testing Android software on the Zii prototype unit. The Zii-optimised Android has noticeably fluid visual transition, but it’s probably far from market-ready as other vital features such as camera, GPS, multi-touch, etc are not supported at this point.

The market may one day overwhelmed with feature packed Zii-optimised Android PMPs and phones of different make if Zii chip is taken up by “Shanzai” manufacturers.

La zia in questione arriva da una piccola cittadina di montagna, dove il giovedì sera trovi solo un ristorante aperto e dove i ladri hanno un nome e un cognome e non hanno una grossa attività. Il viaggio è stato lungo e faticoso, e anche per questo la sua visita vale la pena di un racconto.

La ZiaGiò è alta, magra e con gli occhi celesti. Ama la vita di montagna, il cielo blu delle vette e i campi di camomilla. Le piacciono i fiori, li disegna anche sui vetri appannati. Sa creare con le mani capolavori di lana e cotone. E’ insomma una zia speciale.

Subito si è creato un buon feeling tra questa zia dalla voce sottile e la Zampetta, che guardava stupita di fronte a se’ una persona in più, che vedeva dalla mattina al risveglio fino alla notte prima della nanna. Per lei sono stati giorni faticosi, visto che abbiamo colto l’occasione per portare la zia a spasso per località e locali: una capatina a toccare l’acqua del mare con i piedi (scarpe incluse!), una visita al centro storico e degustazione  di cibi più o meno tipici, della serie dal panigaccio alla pizza!

La zia ha sparso la casa di regali e fiorellini, di chiacchiere di scarpe e di considerazioni sulla vita: per un momento alla Spiff è sembrato di tornare a rivivere come prima.

Un’altra prova superata a Villa Camomilla: avere un ospite gradito in casa, seppur con tanta difficoltà, è cosa possibile e  piacevole nonostante la fatica. Alla prossima, ZiaGiò, verremo noi a trovarti speriamo prima di Natale!

Plugged the Zii EGG into the PC. No surprises here — the computer detects it as a storage media. The one gripe however, is that the Zii EGG cannot be charged with the USB cable. You need the adaptor for that. Anyhoo. Pictures.

An inside source tells us there’s a camera app for the Zii EGG floating around somewhere. Yeah, we can’t wait to camwhore with the Zii EGG. Rawk! Gawd I do wish this were an end-user product, not just a toy for developers. Oh wells. Chua Zi Yong from the Google Android Developers and User group did a very comprehensive write up on the Zii EGG, how it will be deployed and breaking down some key terms like StemCell Computing for the man in the street.

“The Zii EGG will become a consumer product, but it will not be branded and sold by Creative for now. However, they do have the option to introduce a consumer product under the Zii brand, and they are just as happy to support other companies to create consumer versions as well.” says the writer of the article.

Well good, the Zii EGG is predicted to eventually become a consumer gadget. Now all we have to do is wait for the developers, OEMs and ODMs to bite. And give us consumers something we can play with, soon.

Azi … inca ma refac dupa ziua de ieri …

Agli sgoccioli del tempo limite per finire sul guinness dei primati della “donna che ha saputo in che giorni aveva le ferie il minuto prima della chiusura estiva”, ho appreso cum magno gaudio di essere la fortunata possidente di num. 3 (T-R-E) settimane, da passare dividendomi tra: 14 giorni con marito e figlioletta e altri 7 per giostrarmi il rientro e quindi riprendere con tranquillità il lavoro a fine agosto.

In zona altrettanto super-cesarini, sventagliamo le opzioni che constavano in simpatiche opzioni, quali:

NULLA+NULLA;

FREGENE GIORNALIERO+BOH;

LASTMINUTE ASSENTI+ALBERGHI A 1 STELLA DA SEI MILIONI DI DOLLARI (a notte, per persona)

Ma dove nulla può internèttt, nella landa del ‘costa troppo’, nell’indecisione più totale e lo sconforto più bigio, eccote che t’arriva ciò che mai lasciò solo l’uomo nel suo oblio, ovvero: ‘IL PASSAPAROLA’. Grazie a questa fantastica ‘travel agency’ di tradizione orale, abbiamo totalizzato:

• prima settimana come gentili ospiti (leggi ‘alloggio a sbafo’) nella villa vuota degli zii del maritozzo, in un ameno e chic-chettoso luogo marino vicino Roma
• seconda settimana a Massa Marittima, località consigliata nel tempo di un caffè al Bar da un collega del maritozzo (si, mentre io mi so’ sbattuta a destra e a manca per confrontare prezzi, fare telefonate, smanettare su internet, calcolare percorsi, lui se fa ‘na chiacchiera col collega e, a totale e univoco culo della miseria, svolta la questione. Se è giustizia questa. Ah, Oh, Deh, Mah.)

Piccole precisazioni sono dovute, soprattutto non nel tentativo di abbellire con fronzoli il tutto, ma solo perchè è assai probabile che, dopo questa ‘puntata’ da bicchiere mezzo pieno, io me ne uscirò con la seconda, dove a scatafascio elencherò gli episodi fantozziani, con ben più dovizia di particolari…

Insomma… la villa in questione constava di luogo immerso in un comprensorio con Parco, campo da calcetto, piscina olimpionica, discesa privata a mare, tavoli da ping pong, campo di bocce, parco giochi per bambini con giostre nuove, Bar, Club & Ristorante, portiere e giardiniere e musichetta della Forrester Creations che probabilmente partiva quando schiacciavi il pulsante per entrare dal cancello e parcheggiare la macchina nel tuo bel posto auto riservato.

La casa  poi, era adagiata su giardino, formata da due parti distinte, ovvero leggi ‘two apartmentz are megl che uàn’.

Ecco.

Io mi sentivo tipo famiglia Brambilla, mentre da una Skoda Fabia compressa fino all’autoimplosione, scaricavo buste del discount co’ le ultime robe che, non sapendo più dove infilare, erano state gettate tipo monete in der pozzo della speranza nei suddetti sacchi. Ero là a fare lo slalom tra SUV e bambine coi peggio gadgets di Hello Kitty, allorquando un biondo golden retriever ci ha accolti slinguazzando la superficie visibile delle nostre persone e, possibilmente, delle nostre masserizie.

Da là che dire della possibilità di spaparanzarsi a bordo vasca e guardare tua figlia che spruzza fuori metà dell’acqua della piscina a forza di manate giulive? (set: mamme invidiose che tentano di scollarsi dal collo pargoli con canottini, ciambelle e braccioli -tutti insieme- )

E degli amici+parenti che ti vengono a trovare e fanno altrettanto? (set: gente intorno che adopera sguardi riprovevoli e si asciuga goccioline di cloro puro dalla pelle abbronzata)

E di quel paio di ricche penniche che non ricordavi più dai tempi del liceo, quando ti addormentavi sul vocabolario ‘IL’ durante una traduzione della versione di latino? (set: rivoletto di bava che scorre dall’angolo destro della bocca e impronta del cuscino mentre fai ‘munch munch’ con occhio a mezz’asta)

…e l’altra parte della vacanza nonchè il ‘the best of’ delle Fantozzianate?

EEEhhh…ma mica che mi vorrete piantare in asso proprio come l’ultimo dei deodoranti??

Where all those who have bought the Zii EGG and Plaszma SDK starter kit go to talk about their new toy.

Creative started shipping the dev edition of the Zii EGG. From a few hours of browsing though the OS is feels like it is a long way from the consumer market.

Below is a few photos of the video preview of the hardware and a quick and dirty look at the Plaszma OS. I stress this several times in the video that this is a developer edition so you cannot judge the OS yet- it is very rough.

The hardware is what you would expect from Creative and the Zii EGG has a build quality similar to the Zen X-Fi or Zen (Newer version)- it feels plastiy and toy like but is still well made and rugged. The only thing that really bothers me and i hope that this gets changed is the screen material. I haven’t dug too far into it but it appears to be a similar screen to the Zen X-Fi, plastic with a plastic film on top with a really bad glare- definitely low end materials.

As I dig into it more I will share more thoughts and videos. In the mean time check out the video and pics below and stop in our Creative Zii EGG forum for discussion.

Oh Creative, how very, very shrewd you are.

Ok, so I’m a little behind time, but it has finally sunk in that ZiiLABS’ recently announced Shanzhai marketing OEM program, is more than just about ‘open-source’ technology. That is just ONE aspect of it.

Thus far, we know that their recently launched Zii Plaszma SDK + 32GB Zii EGG are targeted at developers, the OEMs and the ODMS. There is no sign that the Creative themselves are going to develop the Zii EGG themselves into an end-consumer product to sell.

If “shanzhai” reference is anything to go by, Creative is quite clearly targeting OEMS and ODMS from China. Who’s faster and more efficient than the Chinese in mass producing knockoff pirated brands and goods from Gucci, Levi’s, Louis Vuitton to Sex and the City, and particularly, electronics? “Shanzhai”, as denoted in Wikipedia, refers to the Chinese’ unique talent to rip-off brands and Chinese knockoff and pirated brands and goods.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH. Blockberry.

Very, very smart of Creative to exploit that unique Chinese talent. Heh.

Plus, Creative has everything set up for OEMS to ‘develop solutions across a broad range of consumer and embedded devices.’ That they can then rebrand, mass produce. All you need is to get is the Plaszma SDK Starter Kit + 32GB Zii EGG and you’re ready roll.

‘These ‘Shanzhai’ OEMs and similar setups around the world may not have brands but have an insatiable appetite for ready-to-go technologies, and can adapt these technologies very quickly to new market opportunities. Moreover, they are very efficient and can move very fast.’ said Hock Leow, President of ZiiLABS in the press release.

Now we know the organized mass production is no problem for the Chinese.

However, given this opportunity, one wonders if they will keep mass producing rip-offs of the next new gadget that hits the market gadget. OR, will they come up with something truly impressive and that is for once, an original creation from China in the 21^st century.

I suppose that remains to be seen.

If you haven’t been keeping up with this thing, then we’ll get you caught up to speed. The Zii Egg is Creative’s first touchscreen device, and it comes packed with 10-point multi-touch. The screen is of the 3.5-inch variety, with a 480×320 resolution. It supports Bluetooth, WiFi, GPS, and has two VGA cameras. Even better, the Zii Egg offers HDMI out at a resolution of 1080p high definition. And it’s running on the Android platform.

So…the potential specs look amazing. But this is still only a developer’s platform, not exactly set for consumers yet. And Creative is trying to basically sell it to others so they can create their own versions of it and sell it under that brand name. Cool, but kinda lame there is no Creative model at all slated to be released. Plus this all hinges on someone actually picking it up, creating their own version and mass producing it. And not reducing the specs to reduce COGS. Being that I am tired of restricted Apple iPods, and the Zune HD obviously will not read on my Mac, I have my fingers crossed that this turns into a reality.

It looks like an iPhone/iPod Touch, behaves like one, but based on the specs – AND the features, I say this could be more than just the iPhone/iPod Touch.
