I’ve naively wondered why my husband is a Pisces when he’d rather be eating meat than fish; furthermore, water, whether it be for swimming or showering, has to be precisely a certain temperature before he’ll even test it with his little toe.   Since he didn’t come with a manual when we got married, I’ve learned how to combine my sign (Taurus) with his somewhat by trial and error, the school of hard knocks, and lots of love (which has always been reciprocated equally.)  Today I researched Pisces for this post and had one of those “ah ha” moments.

STYLE GUIDE ACCORDING TO YOUR ZODIAC!

       For those who know me personally, know that I am a proud Virgo! Everything is somehow related to this fact. My attitude, work ethic, emotions, selection of friends, and now my STYLE! I came across this fun article online and I thought it would be fun to share with you guys. According to my reading below, I am conservative and always neat and “put together”.  I couldn’t have said it better myself! Even though I am a fashion designer, I seem to have more of a classic take on clothing. I adore high fashion but I am more comfortable viewing it on the runway rather than in my closet. Take a few seconds to view your sign. Let us know if it is a hit or miss!

Aries – They love the color red. They also like to wear the latest fashions and do not mind standing out in a crowd. However, Rams are also successful in the business world, so you will also find them in classic, power suits; dressed impeccably. Look for the red tie as a dead giveaway or a bright colored bag or shirt. Because the part of the body that Aries rules is the “head”, many wear stylish hats, scarves and barrettes. If an Aries man goes bald, he usually opts to shave his head rather than do a “comb-over.”

Taurus – These folks love clothing that is comfortable. Linen suits and dresses are favorites. Soft cottons and silky fabrics that are pleasing to the touch are favored. Bulls seldom go for the latest fads. They like high quality items but want to get them on sale. Discount designer stores are their passion. Neutral colors and earth tones are the best for a Taurus because he is an earth sign. The area of the body that Taurus represents is the neck and throat so many Bulls wear gold chains, necklaces, nice neckties and scarves.

Gemini – Anything goes here! Gemini’s dual personality favors all kinds of looks and styles. Gemini’s closets are brimming with outfits for every occasion. They love color and funky styles that are youth oriented. Gemini enjoys wearing a worn pair of sexy blue jeans with a tank top just as much as they love to dress up in a velvet evening gown or black tie tuxedo. The part of the body that Gemini rules are the hands so, bangle bracelets and pretty rings are some of their cherished accessories. Gemini also has a weakness for purses.

Cancer – Pretty, soft, feminine, vintage…these words describe some of the outfits you may find hanging in a Cancer woman’s closet. Cancer men hang onto the clothes they love and wear them out… or forever. That ratty old T-shirt from a Bon Jovi concert is a prized keepsake because it holds sentimental value for a Crab. Cancer like soft colors, especially white and shimmery pastels. About their jewelry, they usually prefer silver and pearls. Both men and women crabs love soft, cozy fabrics like flannel, velour and terry cloth.

Leo – Leo the Lion loves luxurious things. They usually have huge closets filled with lovely and expensive outfits or those that at least look expensive. They own big, oversized jewelry boxes too. Glittery, sequined shirts, skirts and dresses, bold colors, satins and silks are staples in the Leo’s wardrobe. They also like animal prints. Lions look for designer labels. Their favorite colors are red and gold. They are attracted to clothing that helps them “stand out” and is dramatic in some way. Jewelry, especially gold, is always a must-have” for a Leo.

Virgo – Virgo always has a “put together” look. These folks pay a lot of attention to detail so they always look neat and polished, even when they are wearing something very casual. They like the color blue and will often wear tailored, conservative outfits. Virgos are meticulous about the clothes they wear. They do not like anything too flashy, too tight or fashion fads that go out of style quickly. Virgo appreciates a good bargain and can spot a sale a mile away. Usually, their clothing and accessories are perfectly matched.

Libra – Libra loves clothes! They are very fashion-conscious and always strive to look their best. Since Libra is such a romantic sign, many women opt for lacy shirts and skirts, floral, feminine dresses and lots of jewelry. The Libra man always looks good in casual or eveningwear. His suits are tailored to perfection. His pastel shirts match his silk ties. Both sexes love perfume and cologne and probably wear a signature scent everyday. These are not “gaudy, flashy” dressers but people whose wardrobe gets them noticed because it has real style.

Scorpio – Sexy is a Scorpio word. Even though a Scorpio in a pair of polyester pants and a T-shirt does not appear seductive…think again. You really don’t know what they are wearing underneath those frumpy clothes, now do you? Many Scorpio opt not to wear underwear but those girls that do, report lacy bras and thongs as their favorites. The men may wear silk boxers. This sign loves anything black but you will also find they wear a lot of burgundy too. They like to leave “something to the imagination” when they dress up but still opt for clothing that entices. Sexy high heels and thigh high boots are favorite footwear for Scorpio women. Oh, and do not forget those dark sunglasses that help them look so mysterious.

Sagittarius – Sag are freedom lovers so they look for clothing that is comfortable and sporty. They love faded jeans and sweatshirts, oversized T-shirts and jackets. You will find Sagittarius own more than one pair of tennis shoes. Their look is fresh and casual. Purple is their color so you will find many Archer women love lilac, orchid and periwinkle hues. The people often wear jackets or sweat shirts advertising their favorite sports teams. They also love flannel shorts, hunting vests and leather jackets.

Capricorn – Goats are very serious about their wardrobe. They look for good quality clothing and often-designer labels. They usually wear tailored clothing, suits and well-fitted pieces. Gray, brown, tans, some blue and khaki are traditional Capricorn colors. They enjoy attention getting outfits but not the flashy fashions. Their briefcases and purses are status symbols and often will spend quite a bit of money for wallets and bags. They prefer comfortable, luxurious style clothing and would never think of going out in a pair of sweatpants unless they were a designer brand. Goats do not like rhinestones and glitz. Understated elegance is the way I would describe the Cappy’s style.

Aquarius – They are the first to find it, wear it and probably create it too — their own sense of style is important. Aquarius are first to sport the latest fashion fads. They do not care if the fringe jacket will be out of style next season. They will buy it and probably continue to wear it until it comes back in style again! 60’s and 70’s clothing is a favorite too. They mix and match everything and break all fashion rules. Aquarius likes to be different and do not mind being called quirky or unusual. They think whatever they wear is “cool” and a statement as to who they really are.

Pisces – Pisces rules the feet and therefore many Fish absolutely adore shoes. Pisces of both sexes tend to have a closet full of shoes. Fish are the daydreamers of the zodiacs so the women look for romantic fashions; chiffons and shimmering materials. Many prefer to wear skirts and dresses to pantsuits. Pisces guys like comfortable outfits rather than suits. Their color is greenish blue so you will find sea foam green and sea blue hues in their wardrobe. They adore jewelry and often wear too much at one time, adorning themselves with gold, silver and precious gemstones.

I did this version for the Sagittarius sign..She was one of my top favorites…Ruled by jupiter and usually known for being outgoing..I know little about the sun sign except my beloved sister in-law is a sag. She is married to my brother who is a quiet homebody work at the office all day type of guy and she is the EXACT OPPOSITE!!!! She is an outgoing, attractive, young spirited artists. She makes no apologies for her life, work, or mistakes. I appreciate those traits in her. As for the marriage…It’s still going strong after 16 years…The color scheme never quite worked out on this.so this is a case where the outline works better on the shirt. Although I love her…the colors don’t do her justice.

Jupiter the giant ruler of Sagittarius

This year the heavy burden of change in earth’s systems, world governments and weather patterns is sometimes laid at Scorpio’s door. But a much greater force was at work: Saturn, the great planet of sidereal change, slowly and inexorably moved out of the communicative and meticulously-ordered earth-sign of Virgo, where he has ruled, written in stone, made careful lists and acted in a predictable manner for the last three years. On October 29th 2009, he entered Libra, the zodiac sign of partnerships, cooperative ventures, balance and – above all – change.

Changes at the end of the year are expected as we in the Northern hemisphere descend into winter; but Saturn’s influence is huge. Just as the moon affects earth’s ocean tides, the ringed giant’s great orb reaches from its distant position in the sixth solar orbit to touch and move this little world of ours in the third planetary belt round the sun.

At the beginning of November this huge astrological catalyst of change had already joined forces with the sun in Scorpio and world mayhem, freak weather systems, and cultural upheaval were apparent: floods, tsunamis and out-of-season storms added to wars and conflict, famine and a breakdown in communications in both Old and New worlds. We are only now recovering from the effects of drought and starvation in some African regions and deluge and homeless scenarios in the North.

Saturn the planet of change and upheaval

It is a surprise and relief when, following the double Scorpionic portion dished out to us in mid-November by the New Moon, that Saturn’s new position in Libra should be accentuated by the sun’s transition on November 22nd into jovial Sagittarius. This zodiac sign is ruled by abundant Jupiter. It allows us a respite, a time to remember our place on the planet, our blessings, our way forward. But it, too, heralds change.

Sagittarius is a fire sign, sent to melt the icy waters Scorpio dragged in with its lethal tail. The archer, sunny of disposition and sending arrows presaging abundant flow to come, allows the glow of Thanksgiving and a glimpse towards the festivities of midwinter, but he reminds us that more work is round the corner as we are moving into a New Age. It helps to know, however that his ruler, Jupiter presently stands with Neptune, the planet of change and the spiritual, the mystical and unknown in forward-looking Aquarius; so our path, while difficult, is overseen by angels.

“November 22-30: This is a highly creative time. Pay attention and focus on the little signs. Push the boundaries of what you perceive possible. Stretch your imagination. Resist the temptations of the status quo. Ask the right questions, ‘why not’ and ‘what if’. Be brave.

As the month draws to a close, we are being challenged to seek even greater clarity and depth of meaning in life, in our relationships, in our day-to-day interaction with others, work colleagues, family and strangers alike, so that we start to evolve in spiritual understanding of our place on this special planet Earth.

And at month-end, as we move into December, Mercury aspects challenge us to release stress and restore clarity of thinking. Mercury the messenger and communicator-par-excellence may get us through the hard part.

December begins with a powerful double-whammy: a Full Moon in Gemini on December 1st coincides with giant Uranus’ turning direct.

Changes and new directions are on the cards – in spades.

But we have help. Angels and giants are around to help us through.

This is an occasional astrological blog posting, as we move through the year. I am aware that many are familiar with the Western zodiac and its implications. However I hope to encourage a friend who understands the ramifications of the Vedic astrological system of the Indian sub-continent to join me in the next blog post. It is a fascinating system, with many parallels with Western and even Chinese texts. I think it will be something to look forward to.

If you ask me what I’m doing at any given time chances are Ill either be looking after Hollis or drawing.  Currently I’m working on a Signs of the Zodiac series. These are the first two signs.

beware of anyone that can predict the future for you…I found this on the street in NYC…I don’t know why I kept this..
She really knows all the buttons….and things people want to hear. I guess it’s not that hard if you think about it..

I have re-started an experiment I started back in ‘97 when I had the honor of meeting Herbert Brün and attending one of his classes at the School for Designing a Society in Urbana, IL, where I learned how words could shape reality.  Mr. Brun had proposed a discussion for that particular class based on whether “Power” can be a positive force.  In the end, after much (sometimes heated) discourse by the students, his position was that it could not; that any use of the word “power” was inherently flawed, but that is another post for another day.  On that morning, Mr. Brün had forever changed my outlook on life and on the use of words; how words affect us and the world around us.  The concept of “reality is a word construct” never once occurred to me before that discussion.

When I returned back home to Dreamtime Village, I made a plan to begin an experiment based on what I had learned at the School.  After the loss of my son Yogi in ‘95, I had developed an acute case of anthrophobia, or fear of people or society, which was highly problematic since I was living in a community filled with lots of transient folks!  It kept me hidden away from everyone, and consequently I missed a lot of life during that time.

One night, when Lyx and Zon were relating to me all the colorful details of yet another fantastic party that I had missed, I decided it was high time to take some action.  The next day I would “leave the womb” and pretend I was not afraid.  At first the intention was to go over to where the visitors resided (at one of Dreamtime’s buildings called the “hotel“) and finally meet who was there.   Of course, the fear was still there, underneath the mask, but I was determined to play the game through, even if it was only to be for one hour.  I remember thinking “Can’t they see that I’m faking?  It’s so obvious I’m petrified to even be here!”  but if they did notice, they must have been pretending themselves, because I couldn’t see any evidence of it.  On the walk home that afternoon, I was walking on air, elated and yet still shaking with the effort that it took to put on such an extravagant performance.

The next day was a repeat performance, followed by another day of the same results, and so on.  This experiment continued, growing incrementally each time, until one day, about a month later, while I was laughing with someone at a party, it occurred to me that I wasn’t afraid any more.  It wasn’t that my acting skills had improved, I actually wasn’t afraid any more.  It was an overwhelming realization.  I was stunned.  I wasn’t afraid at all, in fact, I was totally relaxed and having a great time!  I never expected to alter my personality.  It was simply an experiment to see if I could fool myself for short periods of time.  Even now, after more than 10 years of this revelatory moment, I am overcome with emotion at the wonder of it all.

These days I am no longer anthrophobic, but I am still battling with stage fright.  Recently I was helping a friend through some grief issues, and when I shared this story with him, it reminded me that I could take on another experiment to overcome this remaining phobia.  I was thinking about a dear friend of mine who doesn’t have stage fright.  In fact, she is one of the most bold and outgoing people I know.  She is an Aries, and whether or not you believe in astrology, she is the very picture of this sign.

If you don’t know anything about the astrological sign Aries, here is a brief description:

(a) The Ram; the first of the twelve signs in the zodiac, which the sun enters at the vernal equinox, about the 21st of March.
(b) A constellation west of Taurus, drawn on the celestial globe in the figure of a ram.

Now, here is Webster’s definition of a battering ram:

1 : a military siege engine consisting of a large wooden beam with a head of iron used in ancient times to beat down the walls of a besieged place
2 : a heavy metal bar with handles used (as by firefighters) to batter down doors and walls

Here is an astrological description of Aries:

Like the ram, Aries sees a target, puts its head down, and charges. After the initial thrust, he or she looks around, resets its direction and charges again.  A phrase that is associated with Aries is: “I AM,”

Here is a description of Virgo, which is my astrological sign:

The Virgo personality is nothing if not practical. You can be attentive to details to the point of obsession. Virgos have encyclopedic memories for detail, and can often recall casual references to minor subjects.  A phrase that most aptly describes this personality is: “I analyze.”

Now, it makes no difference if you believe in astrology or not, as for me, I believe and don’t believe in just about everything.  In the words of Robert Anton Wilson, “Belief is the death of intelligence.”  This is less about astrology than it is about my experimenting with the concept of reality being a word construct.  If I pretend I have these bold qualities of this archetype, then I will perhaps acquire them with practice.

What will you do when the time comes that the world leaders tell you that the battle to stop destroying the world is lost? The reason will be that the many sovereign national states in the world have different agendas and are unable to agree.

The only solution is to stop the growth and expansion derived from the forces of evil and start all over again building a new world with a solid foundation in the recovered history about the lost Motherland.

A Global Parliament

At what point in time will you understand that all the national states in the world have to be built down with the use of only peaceful means.

The world needs a new common superior leadership strong enough to remove all evil from the whole world.

It is an insult to the whole human race that good people are dying by the thousands every day because of poverty, religion and indecisive national leaders.

You and the whole world population can participate in this Internet outline of how a new world can be built. It is the life of your children and their descendants that this is all about.

The election of a new Global Parliament begins with the election of a council for the all the local communities in the whole world. You have to find the land where you and your tribal people want to live on a map and make a circle around it. Make a drawing on a paper of your village and the surrounding land. Use the Diagram Star as a model map.

In the real world the superior Motherland council will supervise the selection of land for every tribal people. There will be no ownership of land.

The number of inhabitants in your village will be decided by the newly elected council of twelve. Remember that the land that you live on is meant to make the village self supported with food, strong houses and clothing for every family. Every member is to work for the common good of the community. There will be no use of money and no taxes of any kind to be paid.

This is the short version of the outlines of a self supported community. Like this the whole world population will live, self supported, proud and happy with everything they need, always.

Best of all is that all humans will live with knowledge. They will know that there never ever is going to be wars and conflicts and evil activity motivated by money. Knowing the full history about the lost Motherland, there will be no religion anywhere in the world.

The world population will be reduced in the future, as soon at technology and science gets back on the right track. The building of cosmic eggs will start and whole tribes of humans and earth life will travel to settle on new planets in the universe.

The election of a new global Parliament

As soon as every community in the world have elected their local council of twelve to be their leaders, education in the seven original sciences will be the main activity in every village all over the world. Every child will have the same possibility to be educated according to spiritual strength and personal abilities.

The best students will be sent to the county educational centers and in time from there to the regional educational centers. The best of the best will be sent to the Motherland to complete their education to a degree as Master.

Through the common education and on set of laws and rules for living, there will be lasting peace in the whole world.

In every community in the world there will be a democratic election of one person for a seat in the Global Parliament. Let us assume that the many villages get together in groups of twelve in order to support each other in any kind of event. The twelve tribes elect one person each. Like this every village population will be represented in the superior Motherland council.

Like this there will be a democratic election for a county council of twelve members. Then twelve persons, men and women, are democratically elected from every county in the world. With their families they are to travel to the new Motherland and take a seat in the new global parliament. The Parliament representatives are elected for life, and when a member dies, a new is elected from the home land.

From the multitude of parliament representatives the superior Motherland council of twelve members is elected. Though the parliament and a number of expert’s councils the superior Motherland council will be omnipotent, omniscient and omnipresent.

They will again be the physical power on earth that is strong enough to deny the forces of evil to enter the common world of thoughts, ever again.

Thoughts

How can a new world with lasting peace be built? The work has to be done by you and the whole world population. There is no one else. The recipe how to do it is hidden in the Bible.

Your thoughts and the thoughts of the whole world population have been occupied by the forces of evil for some twelve thousand years. You are your thoughts. They show your spiritual strength and personal abilities in your spoken words and deeds.

The daily thoughts make you a captive of the forces of evil. Your daily thoughts makes it impossible for you to realize that the forces of evil that the whole world population is captivated with, is the laws and rules of your nation, the global capitalistic system and all the religions in the world. New thoughts mean new thoughts.

It is a choice between life and death. If you choose life for your children and their descendants, you have to choose a whole new set of thoughts. If you choose death you and your children may not have any descendants at all.

You just have to think this through. Compare your national state with a regular work camp. Your national leaders are all good people, they are just doing what they think is right according to the laws and rules they as leaders have sworn to obey. None of them knows the story about the lost Motherland, and when they hear about it they all do as Pontius Pilate and deny it ever existed.

Now think about the words in the Bible. Jesus, as the born again Motherland history, said: “My Kingdom is in Heaven.” The words means that the Kingdom Jesus spoke of had existed physically and the Masters who wrote the biblical story about Jesus, told people about a life totally without despotic and evil Roman occupants and without the priesthood’s and their dogmas and assumptions.

They did not succeed and after the Romans had taken control over the religion and made it in to a despotic tool for controlling the many people they ruled over, the biblical stories was written with a camouflage that people was forced to believe in with the use of warfare and brutality.

I m a taurus and this is a version of drawing I did with a Mandala behind it..the original drawing of the female was done with a micron (love them) on canson tracing paper..there were over 20 versions until I finally got her….it has been cleaned up digitally and color has been added digitally but for the shirt it looks much better in one color with just the outline..It keeps it classy.
I still love the colored version it makes a great screen saver and embodies all the sexiness I feel with having venus as my ruling planet..what do you think? I would love feedback.:)..

I wish I were inspired more often to talk about play philosophy.  Well, let’s see if I can do something with Scorpio.

There are, of course, many common features of different gaming types.  While RPGs are typically very different from competitive gaming since typically they aren’t competitive, my hope is to have something to say that isn’t overly specific.  Below are the same traits I included in my other Scorpio post.  I’m going to talk about how they fit into competitive gaming based on my experiences.

Loyalty

Outside of the actual play of the game, loyalty is hugely important for keeping niche games (most of the CCGs I’ve played regularly, for instance) alive.  But, what about in play?  In two-player games, no real concept.  But, what about political games:  multiplayer CCGs, many boardgames, etc.?  While there’s certainly the capability of generating a reputation for trustworthiness and for being supportive to a cause, I’ve never found that it really mattered.  I’ve changed my stances frequently when circumstances altered, far more so in boardgames than in something like V:TES, as there’s really nothing else to do in most boardgames than try to win whereas CCGs have interesting card interaction to give someone something to do.

Willpower/Self-Control

How does willpower differ from self-control?  Maybe a bit broader, covering aspects of controlling things beyond oneself, but it’s simpler to lump them together.  Another difference I find between boardgames and CCGs is that players of boardgames seem much better at controlling themselves and at not doing crazy or self-destructive stuff.  Maybe it’s because boardgames are simpler and less personal.  It’s amazing how often players of CCGs snatch defeat from the jaws of victory (or, at least, competitiveness) because of lack of self-control.  Too greedy, too spiteful, too impatient, whatever.

Magnetism

Actually a trait useful for two-player gaming as you might get cut some slack.  But, really more of a multiplayer thing.  Magnetism is huge for manipulating people into improving your position or undermining someone else’s.  Can have the most logical arguments, but the people who get listened to are more likely to be the ones with more charisma.

Gentleness

I still find this so weird to be included since it’s pretty opposite to ruthlessness.  Well, whatever.  Occasionally, I see gentleness paying off as people rather lose to someone nice than someone who isn’t.  And, it’s an interesting approach in multiplayer play.  I’m incredibly gentle to my opponents in V:TES, except those rare instances when I whip out a deck of extreme prejudice in which the goal is more to nuke things with overkill than win, and it works okay for me.  The appearance of gentleness is certainly desirable, nice mix with actual but subtle ruthlessness.

Insight

Perceptiveness is hugely important.  Insight, I take to mean self-perception.  Certainly a good counter to losing self-control since you will realize you are losing it.  Frequently, the mind isn’t perfectly focused on the game and being able to realize that can save some grief.

Ruthlessness

Ruthlessness is awesome for winning.  It’s something I lack.  I said in my Eden Storyline post that the lack of interest in winning will keep me from ever being a great player of competitive games.  It’s the ruthlessness needed in things like optimal deck construction, ruining other people’s chances in games, and the like that comes out of a desire to win just to win that is missing.  I actually don’t have a problem with ruthless play, per se.  It’s possible to be ruthless without being obnoxious.  On the other hand, I don’t take my gaming seriously enough to be in favor of it and there’s little point in being ruthless unless players are of similar level.

Fanaticism

Fanaticism about wanting to play a game is often great for me since I need opponents.  Fanaticism within a game is very likely to turn people off and reduce one’s chances of winning.  “Why are you doing that?  It’s what my deck does.  Your deck … loses?”

Revenge

Revenge is interesting because there’s such a wide spectrum.  There are many multiplayer games where revenge is necessary to balance the game.  Even personal revenge I can relate to – if someone screwed up my game through bad play, then I understand screwing up that player’s game as I lose.  (One of the advantages of two-player gaming is you don’t get spite moves that affect the results of the game.)  But, there are obvious limits.  The point to competitive games is to try to win them.  When players cease trying to win, the game becomes pointless.  Also, sometimes players screw you because that’s the correct play in the game.

Sadism

I find lots of players to be sadistic.  Whether it’s enjoying playing prison decks in Magic, playing unrest decks in B5, cutting off people’s ability to expand in Settlers of Catan who are way behind, or whatever.  Lots of folks seem to enjoy inflicting pain upon their opponents.  Gaming can be an outlet for that that is less worse than other things (e.g. pranks).  But, it’s not conducive to my enjoying games.

Suspicion

Suspicion is what makes games like Diplomacy.  I happen to hate Diplomacy, but that’s pretty much neither here nor there.  Some level of suspicion is good as deceiving people is an important element in many games.  Excessive suspicion can backfire as you start believing something that isn’t the case.

Self-hatred 

Fundamental to life is self-hatred.  Without it, why bother getting up in the morning?  So, of course, it’s essential to good gaming.  Only by self-hating myself throughout games do I ever enjoy myself and have any chance of competing.

Do people feel strongly about any of the Zodiac signs?  The only one I think people have any sort of reaction to is Scorpio.  The scorpion image isn’t helped any by the negative traits above.

The point of this series was to take advantage of a source of personality types that people could identify with but which aren’t simplistic or really that familiar and/or take imagery/symbolism from the signs as inspiration for gaming ideas.  While I’m surprised by how many people who have never thought of using astrology to create characters or whatever, I can’t imagine that L5R’s Scorpion Clan wasn’t connected originally to Scorpio.

Take loyalty.  It’s often stated that the only tenet of bushido the clan believes in is loyalty.  It’s even described how to have a Scorpion “not”-ninja fit in with a party of more honorable sorts by stressing that once a Scorp cares about you, loyalty kicks in and the dishonorable scum is only being dishonorable while looking out for the party’s interests.

I understand the appeal of the Scorpion Clan in L5R.  Both from a world design standpoint where you get to have PC ninja and spice things up with a contrast to the idealized belief that bushido is the end all and be all of how to approach the world.  And, from a player standpoint, where it certainly seems that the most popular clan played in Heroes-of-Rokugan is Scorp.  The sneaky, intriguing types get to have side adventures.  Plus, you get to mess with other PCs and have the excuse that you are just playing to stereotype.

But, I don’t really buy the plausability of the clan.  Sure, the background and explanations and vaguely historical tie-ins do a good job of justifying the clan.  But, it’s just incongruous.  It’s just too far away from “gee, there are monsters to the South that need to be kept at bay all of the time” and strikes me as too likely to fall apart politically.  But, most of all, it’s just too extreme.  “You all follow one way of living and we will follow this other way yet we are all …”  Being all part of the same empire is one thing, but L5R puts all samurai in the same religious structure.

Then, I know that different people want different things from L5R and my desire for heroic fantasy is different from those who get off on the intrigue, but it’s so weird to go from fighting oni one day to wondering whether your fellow samurai are messing with your mind another.  In a house game, that’s easily solved.  In HoR, there’s not much you can do but try to cover a wide range of interests, though I think heroic fantasy gets shorted.

By the way, I had the same trouble with the incongruity of Babylon 5 where Sheridan goes from sending the elder races beyond the rim to dealing with secret police.  It may not be any more unrealistic than the alternative, but it’s jarring.

I keep thinking of Scorpion character ideas, mostly involving schools of highly honorable clans as I’m into irony.  But, I just can’t pull the trigger.  I just can’t get behind the idea of playing someone with so much baggage.  Play one straight and you end up with the sort of character I could do without seeing.  Play it against type and you very well may end up with a bad joke that you can’t be rid of.

That’s not to say that Scorpio traits aren’t interesting.  Sure, they sound villainous compared to pretty much every other sign, but that’s too easy.  I’d be good with seeing more heroic characters that managed some of the negative traits.  Of particular interest may be playing a Scorpio who isn’t a Scorpion in L5R.  When the _ cares more about loyalty than the Scorpions do – that’s at least interesting role-playing.  From a mechanical standpoint, it would also be interesting to see a high Earth Ring Scorpion (willpower …).

And, what’s up with “gentleness”?  I keep thinking that should read “gentlemanliness” or something.  Well, that would certainly be a different angle to come from.

250 words…only? I already lost 3. No 5. Let’s not count.. Let’s not limit my writing with such magical number restrictions…I am an amateur and I’ve always written for myself only. My first thought was, Difference…Change..i always wanted to make one.. No matter how small.. Don’t remember since when.. I wanted to reach out.. I wanted to touch lives. And ironically I did that n I suffered. I am young,20 is young. Still I feel I have experiences worth sharing.. which can help someone who is lost. Why? Because I was lost once.. I searched for my identity. I saw problems..all around me, within my family-friends, neighbors,in the streets, Back-biting and hypocrisy all around. I imbibed all of them.. To the last drop. I became a part of the problem. I learnt it the hard way. No regrets because it worked.

And then I found myself. I am no longer a lost soul. I know why I am here; at least I believe I know. My belief and my faith in my creator, me, my loved ones and well-wishers is all that matters. Let everyone laugh. They are laughing at their own weaknesses, maybe they are jealous they are not me; maybe afraid.. But who really cares?? Who has the time?? I DON’T.. I’ve wasted enough time on them. Now I want to do something good..to give something back to the place I was born in.. which is my identity. I am not ashamed of my background, skin tone or accent.
