Trong chương trình tặng key vừa rồi của ZoneAlarm, mặc dù cả tôi và bạn đều biết trước thông tin nhưng tôi tin là chúng ta chỉ có thể làm “người thứ 3” – đứng nhìn thiên hạ người ta “đao” ầm ầm mà thôi. Lý do ? Như tôi đã nói, mặc dù nó tặng key miễn phí 1 năm cho sản phẩm ZoneAlarm Pro 2010 nhưng bạn phải điền các thông tin về thẻ tín dụng -> suy ra bạn cần phải có một thẻ thanh toán quốc tế như Visa, MasterCard….10 người ở Việt Nam thì chỉ hy vọng ….nữa người là có mà thôi. Khoan hãy bàn đến vấn đề cái thẻ của tui chỉ có 10USD, thực chất nó là thẻ Visa Debit – tức là tiền trong đó do bạn bỏ vào, hết tiền thì hết sài chứ không phải dạng sài xả láng cuối tháng….tính sau như ở nước ngoài. Khi cầm trong tay cái thẻ Visa và điền thông tin cho Paypal, tôi thực hiện việc này ngoài tiệm Net và cũng lo sợ. Tôi hiểu rõ nguy cơ mà mình có thể đối mặt nhưng cũng nhắm mắt làm liều vì số tiền lúc đó trong tài khoản không nhiều và tôi cũng xác định là mình chỉ nạp tiền khi cần thiết mà thôi. This one is here so I can find it easily next time. I spent most of a day troubleshooting this before I found the solution.

Situation:
User cannot browse the Web. May be able to browse secured (https) sites, but normal (http) sites blocked. Can ping sites. Can use an e-mail client. Can use Telnet, except for port 80.

• Check firewall settings, anti-virus, anti-spyware, anti-malware. Run full scan with your security software.
• Check proxy settings.
• Connect another computer to see whether there is something filtering out HTTP upstream.

Done all that already? So had I. Then I found this, which led me to this.

Here’s what you can try next:

1. Reboot the computer into safe mode. If you don’t, you won’t be able to do this.
2. Log in with a local machine administrator’s account. Open the registry editor.
3. Navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\vsdatant and set Start to 3. NOTE: if this key isn’t there, this isn’t your problem and this fix will not help you.
4. Restart the computer.

In this case, you’re probably dealing with the leftover pieces of a ZoneAlarm firewall installation.

As the HP discussion site above says:

1. Even if you think you never installed ZoneAlarm (like me), still look out for vdatant.sys, it may be there!
2. You cannot change the registry setting when vdatant.sys is loaded/running, even if you have Admin privileges. You need to boot your machine in safe mode (with or without networking), and then you can edit the registry setting to disable the driver.

ZoneAlarm’s Ads Steal Web Pages

Okay, this is just going to be a short blog post. Well, to be honest since Saturday in the late afternoon, around about 11:30pm, my computer decided it’d be a good idea to blow up. So yeah that is how much I managed to avoid my Nuclear Meltdown… by breaking it anyway.

So, I tried and tried to get it to work but instead it didn’t comply. No, it just sat there and gave me a look of “LOL! Look at you, being an arse, trying to fix me… you can’t work a computer… HA!”. So I cried, turned it off and went to sleep at half past mindight.

I woke up, booted it up and hoped it was all a horrible dream. Of course not, that would mean the world would actually like me. Of course not, MADNESS! So, I carried it downstairs and got my mum to take a look at it. So, she picked the super restart from the beginning (good thing I backed up all those files I gave a crap about) (phillipe stark? Is he any relation to Tony Stark?). I set it all back up again and then downloaded AVG… oh look, the internet stopped working… well, by internet I mean internet explorer and also AVG wouldn’t connect to the update server. So I decided to let my mum deal with it whilst I played Simpsons Road RAge on the gamecube for the lols.

Eventually my brother came downstairs and fixed it all…  So, after YET another restart from the beginning, it started again, and we started it AGAIN! The first thing we downloaded was Firefox then my brother started a long line of downloads. Slowly they rolled in, eventually ZoneAlarm rolled in and I tried to install it. OH FUCKING LOOK! I need Service Pack 1 installed, and do you know what? I’m still trying to download it now… yeah, it sucks doesn’t it. So I downloaded nearly everything I had, again. Well, there are actually LOADS of things which I probably still need to download… and bookmarks and settings I need to deal with *cough UAC cough*.

So, today at around about… 6… well, earlier, my service pack 1 download stopped (again!) at about 81%… it had said 28 minutes left for 30 minutes, so I was a bit suspicious. So, I decided to restart my computer so all the new things could be put to new. But… of course, I can’t do anything without it going wrong. I typed in my password and then it broke… well, by broke I mean it froze on the “Welcome” message… with the circle that never stops spinning and spinning and spinning.

So, I brought it downstairs in the 1 minute time limit (or less) that my battery lasts for… and failed… So after much arguing between parents and talking over each other… they decided to go back in time to 1984… I mean 5:47. And here I am.

Now that I restarted my computer from the start, the touchpad mouse now works again. Which is both good and bad primarily because I haven’t had it for ages, so I have grown accustomed to just throwing my hands about and using the buttons as an elbow rest… so I end up clicking on all sorts. It also means I can now use it AS a laptop (well, if the battery lived longer than 1 minute. It also means I can sort of lazily do stuff… I just need to get used to the touch pad again. I keep on clicking whilst I am moving and stuff…

Well, hoping it all goes well and the SP1 download doesn’t break again… I may be able to write another blog off at some point in the near future giving a better view of what happened in my week.

Who knows, the crap I ordered may have turned up by that time, which would be fun. So I can always hope for that… and enjoy some scud. As well as some other stuff… Tomorrow will have it’s ups and downs…

If we use the computer then its our duty to know about the services and I mean some related to computer. As I told to that one of the best and important service used by network printer  is called spoolsv but now a it is also involdev in malware and virus but why we do not know about. Since because due to lack of knowledge, where virus, attackers and intruders uses the similar and common word to infect and attack the system. So spoolsv is also targeted by them, you know about to read this article in detail. Below.

It’s possible this is a virus or spyware, but my searching found that LOTS of people have this problem with ZoneAlarm, and that in most cases, it’s harmless. Apparently the real spoolsv.exe program handles networked printers and occasionally needs to communicate with a remote printer, or check to see if there any networked printers.

I always like to  run the Microsoft Anti-Spyware program to see if picks up anything on this file, just to be sure. If it seems to check out okay, tell ZoneAlarm to deny internet access by spoolsv. If you then experience any problems printing, tell ZoneAlarm to allow the access.

Microsoft to give away anti-virus

Microsoft is poised to start giving away security software.

The company is reportedly trialling free anti-virus software internally and said the beta version would be released “soon”.

Called Morro, the software will tackle viruses but lack the broader range of utilities, such as parental locks, found in paid-for security suites.

Morro will be Microsoft’s second venture in the highly competitive security market.

Microsoft’s first attempt revolved around the Windows Live OneCare service that did not succeed in turning many customers away from rivals such as Symantec and McAfee.

Microsoft plans to discontinue Live OneCare once the Morro software is ready.

No specific date has been given for when Morro will be released, but in the past Microsoft has said it would be out by the end of 2009 at the latest.

Microsoft said Morro would tackle viruses, spyware, rootkits and trojans.

Microsoft anti-virus software? Hey, you first, let me know if it works. Kind of like buying fire insurance from an arsonist or letting a child molester babysit your children, if you ask me.

I get McAfee anti-virus free with Comcast cable internet. I also use and recommend ZoneAlarm for a firewall and Ad-Aware and Spybot – Search & Destroy for spyware control. They’re all free. Keep them updated and run regular scans and you’ll never have any problems. I know I never have.

Introduction

It will be the surprise enough to all Windows 7 user that at the initial stage it was impossible to and confusion to use Firewall since no any firewall is supported by this current version of Windows 7. Some of the firewalls, ZoneAlarm, Agnitum Outpost do not work yet and others also Comodo, ESET are not yet working properly in Windows 7.

However ESET is going to be a nice firewall in the future, therefore this firewall get 7/10 points.

But it will only let you install the firewall if you deinstall any other AntiVirus first.
Of course it makes sense to only install one antivirus to avoid conflicts, but I wouldn’t want to miss the best AntiVirus from Avira:

I did not know AVG before, but it is really one of the best security packages out there.

The firewall works very similar to ZoneAlarm and is asking for your permission if an unknown application tries to establish a connection.

You know what’s funny? mIRC was the first application that the  built-inWindows firewall tried to block as well. As far as I heard there shouldn’t be a problem running the Windows Firewall and another 3rdparty firewall simultaneously. However you should never run two 3rd party firewalls at the same time.
Overall this seems to a pretty nice solution for Windows 7. You can download the trial here.

Today I started woking on a windows application at home and I was very annoyed by the error I was getting whenever I tried to debug/build the application that said: “Could not execute CVTRES.EXE“

Tried lots of things like giving full rights to “everyone”  on the debug folder and some other silly things, untill I found out that there was something there was something in ZoneAlarm that was causing the problem. I had to uninstall and re-install ZoneAlarm. Turning it off was not sufficient. I never understood what was causing the problem at that time and to be honest I’m not too concerned with that either. May be there was some setting that needed a reset or something. But anyway like they say: “All is well that ends well”!

Hope some of you might find this useful someday.

Nice title there… I uninstalled that firewall of mine – ZoneAlarm. And Spybot is gone to, in favor of Ad-Aware. Hopefully my computer will start acting properly now.

BTW, I’m done writing my first completed song in Live.
