It’s official. We are counting down our days to cruise vacations – all you can eat dinners, margaritas on the beach and rooftop barbeque parties that last all night. We are all excited that summer-like weather is finally here. Summer brings all the associated fun activities, excitement of being outdoors and a respite from harsh winter conditions. Lately, however, during this transitional period we find that it is more difficult than ever to decide what to wear on a daily basis. Is it hot today? Or is it chilly? One of our favorite spring trends is the use of patterns in our outfits and accessories – whether in the form of polka dots, stripes, geometric shapes, chevrons, florals or anything in between. While prints and patterns have always existed and reoccur in fashion every now and then, they are the new vision we’ve seen most designers tapping into for spring and summer seasons.  Prints covering full color pallets, in both subdued neutral tones and opulent brights, have inched their way into the hearts and wardrobes of nearly every fashionista. Erica has been dying to get her hands on a polka dot tapered pant, and Dave has been wearing stripes and spots since the Fall! Our closet now incorporates a variety of patterns like never before – nuances of bold prints and vibrant fabrics coupled with our faithful staple color, black (you know, to pair with the vivid patterns and avant garde prints).

When opting for an outfit that’s print and pattern forward, keep in mind that simplicity has nothing to do with being fashionably understated. You will (and we guarantee this) look absolutely ravishing if you pair neutrals, solid (perhaps bright) tones, or our go-to black with lively patterns and prints! That is and will always remain the way to do it!

When incorporating a pattern into your wardrobe don’t become overwhelmed, (or let your outfit become overwhelming!). Keep the rest of your look light and uncomplicated. This will achieve an effortlessly chic ensemble. Use accessories that compliment the colors in the patterns you’re wearing, such as brown or black skinny belts, clutches and summer hats (that’s a must). Now that spring is finally here (or it feels as though it is, if not officially), we are excited to get back to our favorite recreational activities: trips to the beach, long walks with iced coffee, and of course strolling the street fairs and flea markets searching for fun gems in the form of turquoise rings, bowler hats, faded denim shirts, printed scarves, vintage dresses (for Erica) and ties (for Dave). Spring trends are all about keeping your look light and airy, so pastels instantly became every fashionista’s go-to. Baby blues, pale pinks and muted yellows paired with whites and head to toe nude ensembles will keep you looking like a style icon. These soft colors leave you feeling endlessly optimistic. Who can help but be cheerful when wearing lively colors? We can’t!

Subtle Pride
For those of you wou would rather let your Irish pride shine through one or two concentrated areas of your outfit, try pops on gold and green. This can take the form of really anything you wish or feel comfortable with, including jewelry, shoes, a skirt, or other accessories.

And who says you have to go for the brightest, most blinding shade of green anyhow? All shades are open for use, and no, we don’t discriminate.

All Dolled Up for Patty
For the most part, the makeup portion of a St. Patrick’s Day ensemble is fairly infallible. Regardless of your skill with the brush, anything from a simple green manicure with golden tips, to green eyeliner along the bottom lid (you’d be surprised how great this looks with any color actually), to wild, emerald locks, will do.

Dust some green eyeshadow around your eyes for a festive take on the smokey eye. If you’re feeling daring, consider adding cat eye eyeliner. And do NOT forget the glitter.

Avoid Lepre-gear
You know what this is. We’ve all seen it, and possibly have worn it. The shamrock antennae, the fake orange beards, any sort of green glasses, large top hats, pins, plastic jewelry, and the like. Just don’t do it. Abstain from tackiness at any cost. Bad leprechaun.

Instead, go for accessories that add real interest and value to your overall appearance - and they don’t have to cost a fortune either. Adorn yourself with some cheap, gold-toned jewelry paired, perhaps, with a festive bag to match.

Go Big or Go Home
Carpe diem anyone? Some view this day as a day to live life to the fullest – and to dress accordingly, of course. However, the key difference between your average extravagant St. Patrick’s Day enthusiast and a true fashionista who happens to die hard for the green, white, and orange lies in the presentation and execution of the ensemble.

Stick to flashy solids and bulk up on the relevant accessories. Pile on the golden bangles, bracelets, and necklaces — face it, the more bling the better on this holiday. You could really up the glam factor with with a pair of K.Hendrix sequins pants – they’re better than a pot of gold!

Even if you’re not taking off for a downtown destination, you can take the opportunity to explore the city that is right at your doorstep for something other than your everyday commute. Taking a day on the weekend or taking a day off of work (don’t tell you’re boss this was our suggestion!) can lead to lasting memories and adventures that you never knew were possible so close to home.

While we love spring clothes, the cities on the east coast are still pretty chilly, so we recommend some warmer clothes with a spring twist (a fedora, anyone?). Messenger bags are ideal for lugging stuff around all day and are one of the bags that can actually fit that nice camera for capturing your experience! Don’t forget cash (for cabs, emergencies -and for street food, obviously) or a map (after all, the whole point is to explore a new area). So head out with your girlfriends and check out the places you’ve been dying to try! It’ll be like visiting a whole new city, even though you’re in your own backyard.

For those of you heading to the beach:

Spring break is the first time that most of us actually get to buy the new bathing suit we’ve had our eyes on for the past couple of month. The Zoora team loves this Anthropologie one piece. Although it initially seems like a bummer to be stuck at home dreaming about the days of spring break you used to have, it’s still possible to feel like you’re on vacation without actually leaving your house. In our experience, productivity (with things other than work) is often the best way to feel like you’re doing something fantastic with your life. That’s why, although we absolutely LOVE staying in bed on our days off, we have a few recommendations to get you moving.

1. Get fit. They say that yoga is one of the best ways to relax. When you’re stressed, though, cardio kickboxing is always a great second option! Also, one of the best ways to feel like you’re on a vacation without actually being on one is to take a hike – literally! Find a hill (or a mountain, if there is one near by), put on your workout shoes, and go sweat out all that tension. You won’t regret it. Check out a map of your hometown and find someplace new to hike/run/explore. The exercise will be great for your body and the exploration a great break from your mind!

2. Check out new movies and books. We cannot remember the last time we were actually able to sit down and enjoy a book. With The Hunger Games coming out soon, that’s our number one suggestion. It’s an easy read that’ll leave you falling in love with the characters and the story. Take the time to read something leisurely or catch the latest flick you’ve been dying to see, and turn off your phone to truly maximize your enjoyment.

3. Do something DIFFERENT. With St. Patrick’s Day right around the corner, why not practice baking some St. Patty’s inspired cupcakes? For those of you who burn more treats than you end up enjoying, a spa day might be a better idea (either head to your favorite spa or give yourself the facial you’ve been wanting to try). Lastly, wear your favorite sweater around the house (yeah, that one you’ve been unable to wear to work due to it’s questionable phrase or abundance of holes) and plan a redecorating session – paint swatches, anyone? (You know that’s your favorite part of Home Depot!)

With our suggestions, spring break doesn’t have to seem like such a distant dream. We plan on spending every free second we have to mentally transport to a tropical island or spa retreat. So take a day off, or dedicated next Sunday to be a “vacation.” It’s most likely needed, and everyone will notice the happier and stress-free you when you return to work on Monday.

The Spring/Summer season at New York Fashion Week was packed with concepts and crazes, from head to-toe prints, flatforms and dramatic leather detailing to magentas, snakeskin trousers and sheer overlays. Among the array of trends, we couldn’t help but notice the dominant amount of sportswear gracing the runways. This will, of course, translate to the streets.

That’s right – sportswear. Now, we don’t mean gym clothes, tennis shoes, or anything resembling matching velour jumpsuits! We’re talking tapered trousers, dresses and even blouses that exuded a sporty attitude on an otherwise basic piece. To get the sportswear look yourself, focus on fitted items, asymmetrical hemlines, jersey fabrics and utility fastenings, such as zippers.

We’ve categorized our first date fashion advice for your convenience. Keep scrolling as we solve all of your fashion quandaries, from head to toe.

Makeup: Keep it Natural
Less is more. Too much of a good thing is most certainly a bad thing. Everything in moderation. Such time-honored adages also apply to the magic of makeup. Keep in mind, your date will want to actually see your face. Also – we cannot stress this enough – make sure that your makeup is the right shade for your skin tone.
Do: Apply a light smokey-eye for a subtly sexy look.
Don’t: Pile it on. Keep the stage makeup on the stage.

Dress? Yes.
But keep it classy. Choose a number that compliments your figure, whether curvy or slender. Structured pieces, especially those that define your waist at your thinnest part of your abdomen, help to create the classic hourglass. Watch your hemline too; remember, you can be modest and sexy at the same time.
Do: Stick with clean cuts in sensuous fabrics, and keep the hemline below mid-thigh.
Don’t: Give everyone a free show with dinner.

Jewels: All Decked Out
Jewelry can do one of two things, depending on how you wear it:
1) compliment your ensemble nicely and add a touch of interest; or 2) serve as a distraction. Avoid jewelry that is too complicated or flashy, especially on the first date – it will detract attention from your face. Feel free to wear a few rings or bangles, just don’t overdo the bling.
Do: Don a few classic pieces or a single statement piece.
Don’t: Go overboard with jewelry that is too big, too loud, or overly complex.

Bag: The Self-Expression Zone
Now, your bag is your place to shine in terms of individuality. It’s perfectly okay to be a bit flashy if you’d like. If you bought the new Gucci “1970″ Large Shoulder Bag in bright emerald python and have been dying to show it off, then have at it. As long as you are more simple in dress/outwear color selection, then the world of handbags is fully open for you to explore.
Do: Express yourself.
Don’t: Look like a bag lady by going too oversized; stay compact.

Shoes: A Heel a Day and the Doctor [You're Dating] Will Pay [for Dinner]
Fact: Almost everyone looks better in heels. There’s just something about them that exudes elegance, power, and sex appeal all at once. Harness this weapon by choosing a pair of simple pumps, wedges, booties, boots, or strappy heels in warmer weather. Like your bag, you can express your individuality through the color and design of your shoe, though don’t overdo it or it will prove as distracting as the chunky, loud jewelry previously mentioned.
Do: Try for solid pops of color that compliment your ensemble.
Don’t: Bring out the six-inch stripper heels or wear anything you can’t walk in.

Outerwear: Solid and Crisp
It is still rather cold out , so chances are you will want to wear a jacket of some sort. I personally find it difficult to mess up outwear. Simply wear a peacoat or a cute trench, but keep it to solid colors, even if bright red or black. This allows you to put more focus on your outfit underneath and adds chic simplicity. Also, make sure that your bag and coat do not clash.
Do: Choose solid colors and crisp cuts, and show off your figure with a belted or drawn waist.
Don’t: Choose anything too big or boxy.

In general, try to keep to a well-defined color palette, like black and camel with accents of gold, or greys with a pop of red and silver. This allows you to create interest and shows off a well put-together your ensemble, instead of drawing attention from clashing or too many colors.

The rest is really up to you. As cliché as it may sound, just be yourself and have fun. Let your own style shine through, and remember, chic simplicity is the key. If you’re confident and comfortable in what you wear, you’ll make the clothes you’ve worked for, work for you.

Layering is this season’s most increasingly popular fashion concept. Over the past few seasons, trends such as the statement fur vest, caplet, and oversized sweater have hit the not only the streets, but the runways as well. Layering is the fashionista’s solution to dealing with weather and an instant way to jazz up your ensemble by piling on fun, interchangeable items and accessories. The fine art of layering is, however, difficult to perfect. Done correctly, it can look très chic and quite eclectic.  Done improperly, though, you run the risk of looking thrown together and messy.

We have some simple suggestions to keep in mind. Layering 101 begins now!

Complimentary color combinations, pattern-matching, length management, and knowing when too much is “too much” are things that take time to understand. To avoid looking over-bundled, our favorite trend this season has been sheer layers. Light, sheer blouses are a great way to keep your layering sleek and chic. When layering with a sheer blouse, remember that it’s okay to allow just the collar to peek out from under a sweater – subtle detailing at its finest. You can also pair a spicy-toned sheer blouse under a neutral knit. An abstract pop of color here and there goes a long way.

Another favorite trend of ours is the maxi. Whether you opt for a maxi dress or a high-waisted maxi skirt, you can always layer over it for nearly year-round use. Try a maxi layered under your favorite sweater, a flannel or a fur vest.

This brings us to another dear trend from which we’ll never drift away: oversized sweaters. A good chunky sweater in a neutral tone is perfect, as it can be worn in a million different ways. This versatile, “one-of-a-kind find” sweater is the perfect knit for making a statement whilst layering. Layering with a sweater like this screams style savant, and it’s simply one of those pieces that you will have forever (you know, because you can wear it in so many different ways!). The sweater can be in a playful pattern, a bold standout color, or even shredded. It keeps your outfit upbeat and on the fashion-forward edge. Now that we’ve established our top three favorite trends for layering, let’s combine them all, shall we?  Start with a sheer layer, which is the classic base for establishing a chic layered look. Add to your sheer blouse a chunky knit cropped or oversized sweater, matched with a chiffon or luxe cotton maxi. Complete the look with an everyday wedge or pair of flats. Although the options are endless, we prefer to finalize our layered look by sporting a tailored blazer, leather moto-jacket, or sequined topper to add some flair.

Remember to keep your layered look in its entirety in mind as you move on to the accessories. We love fedoras, bowler hats, and felt floppies, so you might catch us wearing our layered look donning one of them with a heavy knit wrap-around scarf. Statement jewelry is also a great way to add some drama to your layered look. Cocktail rings, bangles, and chains can all be layered accordingly and will help you flawlessly create your chic ensemble. Adding pops of color (cobalt blues, acid yellows, and tangerines), fun patterns (florals, dogtooths, and plaids) and sticking with luxurious fabrics (chiffons, fine jersey knits, and cashmeres) will instantly make you fashionista royalty. Oh, and lest we forget – leathers and velvets are supremely essential if you’re opting for an avant-garde layered look. If you incorporate leather pants or crushed velvet leggings, you’ll go from fashionista royalty to outright rock star.

Having as many transitional pieces in your wardrobe as possible is an absolute must, especially when you’re a fashionista on the go with little time to spare on wardrobe malfunctions. A transitional item is one that can be taken from day to night, or season to season, with little effort. It is nearly impossible for the career driven woman with a strong flare for fashion to run home and change an outfit. Why not stick to items that can be worn in multiple ways for a number of different occasions? Keeping your closet stocked with key, classic pieces that can be mixed and switched is the ideal way to have it all. Wear it to the office and then to happy hour, on the weekend to brunch, on vacation, or while on the go! We can’t tell you how many times these interchangeable pieces have saved us while we’ve been in a pinch for time!

Purchasing transitional garments for your wardrobe is the perfect way to keep things fresh and new on a day-to-day basis. Never mind the seasons, and forget about the “only be seen in a statement piece once” rule. Opt for items that can be layered and worn in a myriad of ways. For example, a fitted black dress (otherwise known as the classic LBD) can be worn to work, on a date, or anywhere else you wish to go! The same concept applies to blazers, heavy knit sweaters, dark wash denim, and tailored black pants. Hesitant to keep the same items in rotation? Start off by purchasing neutral colored garments that are black, white, shades of camel, or darker tones such as hunter green, or a deep red. And remember, it’s all about the accessories! Avoid looking like you’ve worn the same dress too much by using bold accessories and statement jewelry to spice things up a little. Working with layers also helps to rejuvenate your wardrobe, so don’t be afraid to color block and mix prints here and there. Wear a striped cardigan, tights, and flat boots with your LBD one day, a structured blazer, a skinny belt, bangles and heels the next, and pair it with a denim jacket, knit scarf, and platforms, the day after that!

Jack Rose Dress

The Cordial dress is a Zoora favorite for the office; an example of the brand’s edgy sophistication. Monday night, a handful of Boston fashion bloggers and fashionistas joined us at Bradley & Diegel salon on Newbury St. to mingle with designers, get their hair styled, and check out an early version of the site over wine and cheese.

At a party full of fashion bloggers, there are a few things you can be sure of: One, that everyone’s heel heights combined would be taller than the building itself. Two, that people’s outfits will rival runway looks. And three, that cameras will be flashing every moment. All of these proved to be true.

Designers Victoria Dominguez-Bagu of Maria Victoria Designs and Emily Muller joined us and provided clothes featured on the site for our guests to browse through. Emily brought some of the most well-received pieces from her most recent collection, featuring grommet and leather straps on gorgeous breezy silk. Victoria brought some show-stopping pieces as well, including a pleated yellow silk sundress that had the whole room drooling.

We were so excited to show an early version of the site to everyone present and get their feedback on ways to improve it! No one knows online shopping quite like bloggers do, so we knew we were in good hands with their advice!

In between checking out the site and looking through clothes, everyone had the chance to get their hair done by the stylists at Bradley & Diegel. After all, what’s great fashion if you don’t have the hair to match? We saw some envy-inducing blowouts and curls.

Among others, we were joined by Lei Ann of Lee Ann Off Duty, Smita Jacob of Fashion Hogger, Nicolle Saylor, and Alicia Pensarosa of Madcap Style.
