Los Jane’s Addiction es una banda de rock oriunda de Los Ángeles, California, Estados Unidos, conformada por Stephen Perkins en la batería, Eric Avery en el bajo, el talentosísimo Dave Navarro en la guitarra y el excéntrico Perry Farrell en la guitarra, en el año 1990 lanzán su segundo disco llamado Ritual de lo Habitual, un trabajo que mezcla el rock psicodélico con el rock progresivo, en donde destacan los solos de guitarra a cargo de Navarro y las potentes baterías y bajos por parte de Perkins y Avery respectivamente, junto a la peculiar voz de Farrell; el disco tiene dos partes bien marcadas las primeras cinco canciones son más rápidas y psicodélicas de fácil escucha, mientras que las últimas son más largas, densas y progresivas; la canción Three Days narra la historia sobre un fin de semana de perdición que pasaron Perry Farrell, su novia Casey Niccoli y Xiola Bleu (que falleció posteriormente y a la cual esta dedicada la canción) mientras que la canción Then She Did… narra el suicidio de la madre de Farrell cuando éste contaba con cuatro años de edad.

A mi opinión uno de los mejores discos del año 1990, con nueve temas buenos en donde esta banda derrocha todo su talento histriónico, mis favoritas son Three Days, Of Course y Stop! (que tiene un curioso intro en español).

Alright, I feel like this happens to me more than I would think that it should.  Usually when I’m at home I like to put my iTunes on shuffle, it’s really the only way to find things that I haven’t listened to in a while.  So, The Sleepy Jackson came up and got me wondering what the Perth, Australia group had been up to.  Well, if I would have been paying attention, I would have noticed that Sleepy Jackson frontman Luke Steele is 1/2 of the Empire Of The Sun duo, Nick Littlemore being the other.  After re-listening to the album it’s completely obvious… Nick Littlemore is also a member of Pnau and Teenager, Teenager consists of Nick and Pip Brown (aka Ladyhawke)..  Below are a couple of tracks from The Sleepy Jackson’s 2006 release One Was A Spider, One Was A Bird and a weird ass video for Teenager’s track titled “Pony” off of their recent release Thirteen.

Dejando de lado el lo-fi y sin los miembros originales, la británica Polly Jean Harvey (a.k.a PJ Harvey) en 1995 lanza su tercer disco, el To Bring You My Love, cuya característica principal es que las canciones tienen aires más cercanos al blues y al rock, pero conserva el sonido crudo de sus trabajos anteriores y sobre todo el talente de PJ Harvey se mantiene a lo largo de este, las guitarras duras con fuertes distorsiones así como la voz ronca y potente de la artista, junto a letras desgarradoras, directas y sin tapujos típicas en ella; el trabajo de la producción esta ves estuvo a manos de John Pairs (que más tarde sacaría un disco en conjunto con PJ Harvey), Flood (que ya había trabajado con Depeche Mode, Nine Inch Nails, Smashing Pumpkins, etc) y de la misma PJ Harvey.

Sólidas guitarras, bien trabajadas, junto a un ambiente algo oscuro, forman la escénica de este disco, que quizás sea el mejor trabajo de la “bruja”, disco que catapultó a las grandes lijas a una de las rokceras más importantes de los 90’s.

Lisa Germano es una cantante y multi instrumental, es oriunda de Indiana en los Estados Unidos, a la que yo podría catalogar como una incomprendida, en el año de 1994 sacó su tercer disco llamada Geek The Girl que es un disco taciturno y calmado en donde es describe con una exacta precisión el dolor, la pena, la soledad y la tristeza, con letras simples y directas guiados por la voz sugestiva de Germano en donde los instrumentos a pesar de no ser tan notorios juegan un papel importante en el desarrollo del disco, todo estas ingredientes hacen como si Lisa compartiese sus secretos, deseos, fantasías y frustraciones a los oyentes.

Este es disco es profundo y sincero, peor al mismo tiempo placentero, lleno de doce joyas que fluyen tranquilamente, doce temas que forman este gran disco, en donde Lisa Germano nos susurra y nos ve como sus confidentes, como sus amigos.
