Opinel custom knife handle

This was a really fun-yet-frustrating project.  Opinels are great pocket knives with very sharp straight-ground blades perfect for whittling.  The beech-wood handles, I find, are not so great, being a little too short for my comfort.  416 more words

Its funny where you can find the nicest carvings. This little volute is in the stairwell of my son’s orthodontist. Beautiful.

Growing Bear's Breeches (Acanthus)

There is a large beautiful plant growing at the garden centre by our house which we learned is called Bear’s Breeches. J really liked the plant and asked one of the staff there about seeds when it comes time, which they kindly collected and saved for us. 210 more words
