Hank Azaria as Jim Brockmire
Hank Azaria is back with a new live action show, thanks to IFC
. The network will debut Brockmire
on Wednesday, April 5, 2017
at 10:00 p.m. ET
with the first two episodes airing back-to-back. There will be six more episodes, airing between April 12 and May 17.
The series stars Azaria as Jim Brockmire, an old-school major league baseball announcer whose career is destroyed when he has an on-air meltdown about his wife’s extramarital affair. He then tries to rebuild his career by heading to a small town to call games for a minor league team.
Azaira first played Brockmire seven years ago in a Gamechangers
Funny or Die sketch called “A Legend in the Booth.” However, he told the A.V. Club that
he’s been playing with the idea of the character since he was a teenager. In 2016, IFC ordered a series based on the character, showing him trying to put his life back together.
Although Azaria is best known for his voice acting on The Simpsons
, he’s also frequently acted in live action. He recently won acclaim for his role on Ray Donovan
, which won him an Emmy in 2016. He has six Emmys in total – four for The Simpsons
, one for Ray Donovan
and another for the movie Tuesdays With Morrie
with Jack Lemmon. He’s also earned nominations for Friends
and Mad About You
