Mahler’s Second Symphony is the piece I most desired to see performed live, being one of the things I absolutely must see before I die. Miraculously, a performance of this titanic and life-changing piece, the “Resurrection” Symphony, happened to fall on the night before my birthday and Father’s Day, on a Saturday night, in the summer between two chapters of my life, and as a finale to Bramwell Tovey’s 18 years with the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra. 487 more words
