GB badminton pair Chris Adcock and Imogen Bankier handed tough draw

British mixed doubles badminton duo Chris Adcock and Imogen Bankier have been dealt a tough draw in their hunt for Olympic glory.

The pair will face Chinese world champion partners and Olympic top seeds Zhang Nan and Zhao Yunlei in their group, who beat them in the 2011 World Championships.But there is still hope for the Great Britain team, as they have beaten their Chinese counterparts twice since the World Championships loss.Also in Group A are Russian pair Alexandr Nikolaenko and Valeria Sorokina and German duo Michael Fuchs and Birgit Michels, from which the top two pairs will qualify for the quarter-finals.Adcock and Bankier will be hoping to follow in the footsteps of former GB mixed doubles partnership Gail Emms and Nathan Robertson, who won silver at the Athens Games in 2004.Both GB men’s and women’s singles have also been handed difficult draws, with men’s 15th seed Rajiv Ouseph facing Sweden’s Henri Hurskainen and Kevin Cordon of Guatemala, while Scotland’s Susan Egelstaff has been drawn against Sayaka Sato of Japan and Slovenia’s Maja Tvrdy.The Olympic badminton matches get underway at Wembley Arena on Saturday, with the mixed doubles’ medal games being contested on Friday August 3 and the women’s and men’s singles’ medal matches taking place on Saturday August 4 and Sunday 5 respectively. 19 more words
