624 more words

Legendary Shirts:Rangers FC

The other half of the famous and immortal Old Firm-Rangers FC were founded in 1872 by the McNeil brothers-Peter and Moses,Willian McBeath and Peter Campbell. It is the most successful club in Scottish domestic football with a World record of 54 Scottish league titles which is 7 more than its biggest rival Celtic has. Also they won 27 Scottish League Cup titles which it is 11 more than Celtic and it has more victories in the Old Firm derby-159 against Celtic’s 147.From its beginnings Rangers have been associates themselves with Protestantism and British unionism against Celtic’s association with Roman Catholicism and Irish republicanism which stands to this very day.The Blues won their first title in 1891,however it was under manager Bill Struth who led the club from 1920 to 1954 the Rangers became a dominant force in Scottish football, under Struth they won 18 Scottish league titles,10 Scottish Cups,2 Scottish League Cups and other trophies. That was the club’s most successful period which was followed by a decline in the 1960s when Celtic took over and established its own dominance in Scottish football under Jock Stein. But the Blues came back and in 1972 they won their only European trophy to date when in the final of the UEFA Cup Winners Cup they defeated Dynamo Moscow 3-2 in Barcelona after being runers-up in 1961 and 1967.But Rangers’s must successful period in the modern era were the 1990s when under managers Graham Souness and Walter Smith they managed to win 9 titles in a row and signed players like Brian Laudrup,Paul Gascoine,Jorg Albertz,Lorenzo Amuruso and others. In the 2000s the club entered in a period of crisis which culminated in declaring bankrupcy in 2012 which sent them to play in the Scottish Third Division for the first time in its history and that was the beginning of the club’s lowest point and even worse era of the club since the 1960s,it took 4 years that the Rangers come back to the Scottish Premiership and in May 2016 they finally achieved promotion to the highest division in Scottish league football under Mark Warburton.Hopefully for the Rangers that will mark the start of the new era which the will challenge Celtic for the SPFL title in the following season, meanwhile the old blue shirt which was worn by legends like Sir Alex Ferguson who spent time playing at the club is a must have for collectors across the world and it is one of the symbols of the Old Firm which in 2016 has finally returned.
