Why do we let the "worst of us" rule the "rest of us?"

Life is complicated especially for women in a world dominated by men, particularly men who are rich and powerful … men who are, as Benjamin Franklin put it in his famous oration of 1787 on “Dangers of a Salaried Bureaucracy,”: “the bold and the violent, the men of strong passions and indefatigable activity in their selfish pursuits.”  I have only late in life begun to understand the framework laid that makes the “rest of us” complicit in this charade.  945 more words
