on a journey through the past (17/sept/19)

looking at old photographs with a friend last night, some going way back to the 1940’s and 50’s, long before my time of course, others the late 60’s and some from the 1970’s, as we sat there passing those prints, mostly black and white though a few of the latter being in colour, I thought this is the way to see photos… for starters it’s something best shared, like a packet of biscuits, truly never much fun on your own, and he actual physical handling of something tangible between your fingers as a bridge between it and your eyes is the best way to see and appreciate a photograph… plus there’s the joy of turning them over to see if anything is written on the back suggesting at date, who might be in them exactly, the where and even sometimes the why, all of which is pure gold… this is something lost with digital, though don’t get me wrong I love digital now having been a reluctant convert initially, its convenience and not to worry about running out of film, though this can be seen as a double-edged sword, not to mention of course the chance, or temptation, to correct any slight or major flaws afterwards, which is also a bit double-edged… but…. 184 more words
