STEAMY "CURACHA" PASSED UNCUT BY MALACANANG

Manila, May 26, 1998 - Expect long lines of movie goers Wednesday, when "Curacha," one of the sexiest, most controversial movies in recent times finally gets shown in movie theaters.

The Rosanna Roces steamy film about "toro at torera" (live sex performers) was approved for public showing by the Malacanang Appeals Committee without cuts, but with a rating of "R-18, for adults only."

The movie was reviewed twice and given an "X rating" by the Movie and Television Review and Classification Board, meaning it is unfit for public viewing. The censors wanted the graphic sex scenes and those showing Rosanna's total frontal nudity cut. Regal Entertainment, producer of the film, elevated their case to the Malacanang appeals body.

"This is a victory for everyone in the local film industry who is committed to the cause of uplifting the quality of Philippine movies. I hope this establishes the shape of things to come as we prepare ourselves under a new administration about to take over Malacanang," said Chito Rono, director of the movie.

"This gives us writers and also the directors hope that we can still make the movies we want to do and allow the audience to widen their experiences through these films," was the reaction of the film's scriptwriter Ricky Lee.

"Curacha" documents a night in the life of Corazon, a "torera" who performs in live sex acts for a living. It is the same night that the country is going through a military attempt to take over the government.

Lily Monteverde said the decision "is a victory for film producers whose only wish is for the movie industry to grow."

"CURACHA" BOX OFFICE SUCCESS REVIVES INDUSTRY

Manila, May 29, 1998 - Everyone predicted that the controversial Rosanna Roces movie "Curacha" was going to be a financial success, but the long lines at movie theaters when it opened last Wednesday was beyond expectations.

"Curacha" continues to make a killing at the tills, despite the rains that would normally have affected cinema attendance.

The film reportedly grossed P11 million on opening day, a whopping figure that is expected to be topped this weekend, it being a payday weekend.

Another factor that's considered a plus for record-breaking box office income this weekend is the fact that most students have returned to Metro Manila from their home provinces, in time for enrolment and the June opening of classes. Majority of them are expected to flood the malls this weekend, rain or no rain.

Mother Lily Monteverde's outfit Regal Films produced "Curacha" and is now grinning from ear to ear, basking in her movie's success both with the film critics and with the "masa" movie-goers.

Mother Lily says the box office success of "Curacha" proves that the local movie industry, which has been on a slump for more than a year, is well on its way to full recovery.

The presidency of Joseph Estrada could also augur well for the movie industry, according to Mother Lily and many others in the business.

The only cloud in this bright scenario is the statement of Rosanna Roces that "Curacha" is her last bold movie, that she will be opting for more dramatic, less baring roles.

The big question now is: "Without Rosanna, who else among the present crop of movie stars can attract as much attention, controversy and mass following?"

In the video, you can see the “Philippine Centennial” logo designed by Edgardo Santiago and slogan “Kalayaan, Kayamanan ng Bayan” in Copperplate Gothic Bold by Joachim Medroso. The rising sun shines its rays over a red (cable number 80108) and royal blue (cable number 80173) striped ribbon, twirled to form the figure 100. Underneath are the three stars in yellow (cable number 80068) which are also in the Philippine flag. The slogan aptly states the reason for the nationhood–that indeed, freedom is the true wealth of the nation. The gold “Philippine Centennial” is reversed to frame all elements. And the performed by the Philippine Madrigal Singers and the Integrated National Police Orchestra.  The tempo is how it should be sung and played as it was originally composed in the March tradition. The main music of the national anthem begins as the ancient map of the Islas de las Filipinas, a golden sunrise at sea to match the Pearl of the Orient line in the Hymn, revolutionary soldiers in rayadillo uniform, General Gregorio del Pilar, the three martyred priests of Cavite or the Gomburza, revolutionary soldiers in a battle scene, a faded glimpse of Old Manila before the Revolution, the Noli Me Tangere cover and its author, Jose P. Rizal, the KKK Banner of Katipunan, it’s Supremo, Andres Bonifacio, General Aguinaldo who at Kawit proclaimed Philippine Independence, an old Filipino flag whose blazing sun is caricatured as a human face, Rizal, Marcelo del Pilar and Mariano Ponce who edited the newspaper “La Solidaridad”, the sewing of the First Philippine Flag in Hong Kong by Marcela Agoncillo, her daughter Lorenza and Josefina Herbosa de Natividad; the Malolos Congress, Rizal’s execution by firing squad at Bagumbayan, and as a finale, a huge Philippine Flag, blown by gentle breeze unfurls to hug the whole screen. Sa katapusan ng bidyo, ito’y sinasabi: “Sandaang taong kalayaan ipinagdiriwang ng Bank of the Philippine Islands, saksi sa ating kasayasayan” plus there is a Special Thanks to.

"Believe" Lyrics by Edwin Ortega Music by Norman Agatep Instrumental Arrangement by Mark Lopez Choral Arrangement by Moy Ortiz Performed by The Company From the Album: Kapayapaan: Songs of Faith and Inspiration Why do you keep the peace when the world’s at war? Why can’t the anger cease in my wounded heart? When will we ever find the answers? Why can’t I get anywhere? So many questions, why should I even care? REFRAIN Do you believe in heaven? Do you believe in paradise? Where can we run when there’s no one, no one we can run home to? If you can’t find the reason why we must go on living, search your soul then you’ll know that we’ll just have, we’ll just have to believe. Why can’t you face your fears? What is there to hide? Why can’t I face the truth? Maybe too much pride? Just when we thought we’ve found the cure, it hurts just to know we’re not sure. Why is there sorrow? How can we still endure? Do you believe in heaven? Do you believe in paradise? Where can we run when there’s no one, no one we can run home to? If you can’t find the reason why we must go on living, search your soul then you’ll know that we’ll just have, we’ll just have to believe. BRIDGE Life doesn’t have to be this way. We’ll make it better for us someday. Love’s all we need and the heart to believe. So look into the sky, believe, and then you’ll never ask why. Do you believe in heaven? Do you believe in paradise? Where can we run when there’s no one, no one we can run home to? If you can’t find the reason why we must go on living, search your soul then you’ll know that we’ll just have I’m asking you do you believe, do you believe in heaven? I’m asking the paradise We just have to believe.

WE WILL RISE AGAIN (music and lyrics by Jude Gitamondoc) (Performed by Raki Vega) (MTV Directed by Ruel Antipuesto and Tess Villegas) (Arranged by Jad Bantug) (Orchestration by Prof. Roberto del Rosario) (Violin by Marc Hamlet Mercado) (Cello by Maria Doris Malaque) (Choir: Voices of Praise Carmel) (Online & local distribution & promotions: 22Tango Records)
I can see it now Crystal clear as day My people will rise again Someday soon, somehow, Somewhere down the way My people will rise again... My people, we will rise again We will learn to spread our wings and fly again Like an eagle to the distant dawn... We will rise again. No more hollow words No more shallow lies For tomorrow, we will rise again No more shattered hopes No more tattered lives This time tomorrow, we will rise again... My people, we will rise again We will learn to spread our wings and fly again Like an eagle to the distant dawn From out the shackles of the past We'll be flying free at last And rising with the morn We will stand and we will rise again. And nothing or no one can take my dream from me I won't let them, I won't let them, no, I won't For tomorrow, we will rise again... My people, we will rise again We will learn to spread our wings and fly again Like an eagle to the distant dawn... From out the shackles of the past We'll be flying free at last And rising with the morn We will stand and we will rise again... My people, we will rise again.

Kuya Pedro Written and Sang by Jamie Rivera Music composed and Arranged by Noel Espenida
Kuya Pedro kami’y turuan mo
May Pagibig sa kapwa san man mapunta
repeat refrain 2x
Coda
Kuya Pedro kami’y turuan mo.
Kuya Pedro kami’y tulungan mo.

"We are all god's children"
Official Theme Song for the 2015 Apostolic Visit of Pope Francis to the Philippines
Lyrics written and sung by Jamie Rivera with The Hail Mary the Queen Children's Choir. Music composed and arranged by Noel Espenida Directed by Eric Teotico Produced by Starmusic and Ligaya ng Panginoon Published by Star Songs, Inc.
Do you see these children on the streets Have you walked the pavements where they sleep? Do you feel their hands When you give them alms? Did you ever give them bread to eat? Have you seen their homes washed by the floods? While a mother tightly holds her child Do you hear the wind Of the raging storm? Can you tell them where it's coming from? Let us show our love and mercy With true kindness and humility For God loves the weak and the needy Just like you and me We are all God's children We are all the same He is calling us by name to help the poor and lame And learn what life is really for It's to know and love and serve the Lord Stand together and let's do our part Hear their voices mend their broken hearts Choose to be brave fight for their rights Give them back their honor and their pride Please do not be blind and just leave them behind To struggle in darkness or give them empty promises We are all God's children We are all the same He is calling us by name to help the poor and lame And learn what life is really for It's to know and love and serve the Lord It's to know and love and serve the Lord It's to know and love and serve the Lord!
