All of Jack Tatum’s records thus far have had a habit of sounding very much indebted to the 1980s. Under the moniker Wild Nothing, Tatum channels the unmistakable sounds of influential 80s alternative bands: past albums have pilfered from the Cure’s glistening guitars draped in chorus and reverb, the jangling echo of mid-period Cocteau Twins, the chugging pop sensibility of the Smiths, and the shoegaze-inflected post-punk of perennially forgotten cult groups such as Pale Saints, the Wake and Kitchens of Distinction. 934 more words
